Hi,

My name is Heidi and I'm in the process of starting my own cleaning business. I already do a bit of work for family and family-friends and I'm hoping to make this a full time job.

I've had a website made which is www.bristol-cleaning.com - I would appreciate any comments good or bad about it and any suggestions for things to change or improve.

I charge £10 per hour to family and friends, but for new customers I was going to charge £15 for the first hour (to cover travelling costs and liability insurance) and then £10 for each subsequent hour. Does this sound reasonable? :) I will be providing my own equipment.

Thanks for any feedback!

I can see a gap in the market for Ladies needing their bristols cleaning - Sorry  ;D ::) ::) :o

Seriously  - I think you will need to do a very good and be quick to get those rates but if your good value for money it'll be ok - you just need to get your foot in the door at first

If you are taking all your cleaning equipment then you should seriously consider 'quoting' for the work rather than a price-per-hour. You only USUALLY (not always) pay an hourly rate if you are paying for labour only.

The trouble with charging for the time is that a you can end up spending 3 hours in a place doing a job that only takes 2 - yet you have to pad it out and remain on site for the whole time.

Likewise you can be accused of working too slowly or spending too much time going to the loo/having breaks/talking etc and not getting the job done. A lot of folk prefer a set-price for an agreed amount of work, because they know what will be done for what price and you as the cleaner know what to expect.

A good percentage of your customer will have had cleaners already and will be more clued up than us who run the actual businesses! So don't underestimate or second guess, its not worth it.
