How Good are Roto Vacs ?
« on: August 06, 2009, 08:47:21 pm »
We are contemplating purchasing  a Rota Vac. Obviously we can have one on loan from Alltec
But would be interested to hear from any one who uses one and their feelings about them.
And also has any oneused the stair one .

Thanks guys.

I have the RV 360 I imported from the States ( saved me a fortune) only kidding.

The first one I had from Solutions UK was a 240 volt and lasted about a fortnight before it burnt out. Like a couple of others they sold they too went pete tong.
After a few e-mails to Dan at Roto Vac I decided to give the 110 volt a whirl with a transformer and hey ho spot on.
I have had the RX 20 in the past but found it to cumbersome for the domestic jobs unlike the 360  which is lighter to carry into houses. Having all the heads I can clean carpets, hard floors and carpet tiles with ease.
I would wait a little longer before you buy and see what the New 240 volt units are like, I believe they are due in soon.

I've had the 2 headed RV and it cleans very very well and lifts the pile but it takes ages to clean a carpet and leaves them very wet, the RV360 which Dave is on about is a far better piece of kit but I would recommend the carpet brush as that was the best bit of kit I've seen for quite a bit.

BTW the RV360 has interchangeable heads.

I brought the first RV360 when alltec got it in a couple of years ago, The switch kept burning out, but they did get it sorted out and they gave me a new RV360. It is a very good machine but only on nylon or poly carpets (it eats wool carpets and i wouldn't use it on loop pile carpet). I will only use it on a really trashed wool carpet and when the customer is not watching.
Hope this helps

Why not on a looped pile carpet Mark?

Coupled to a truck the drying times are incredible on loop with the carpet brush as well as deep piled carpets.

Yes I was took by the carpet brush it made a hell of a difference compared to the standard head, did you ever alter the brush to suit your needs?

Yes Shaun you know me once I get in the BIG shed I don't come out till its fixed.

luckily I got a set of jets off a carpet head and fitted them to the carpet brush and bingo there you have it.
The problem I found with the original brush was they had not changed the design from the hard floor head where the jets were midway between to the vac slots so on carpet the water was pressured straight into the carpet tile not having the chance to be collect by the vac ports. Unlike the hard floor head where the water would lie on the floor waiting for the slot to retrieve it.
The great thing about having the 110 volt motor the customer knows its a true industrial piece of kit unlike something you plug into the wall.

Hi Dave
I've always worried about a loose end of loop carpet catching under the head. I just remember years ago catching a piece of carpet on a rotary machine and pulling right across the carpet.

Mark there are no sharp pieces on a Roto Vac to catch carpet loops. Run with it you'll be fine ;)
