In my experience it isnt worth quoting on the basis of this type of work leading to others.
I might do some once a year. Others have stayed clean for 3 or 4 now.
Doing it by hand you will more than likely underprice.
If you are going to try and do this work you would be better off buying just a water fed pole and an attachment to plug it into their garden tap. And clean it like that.
Good luck.

If you already do her windows chances are that you'll get the job, so long as its not an extortionate price.

For gutters, fascias cladding etc £2.50 per metre.
at that price you can come and clean mine .

grwindows. Cleaning by hand is time consuming and if the soffits are 'deep' it can be fiddly (and hard on the neck).

With a water fed pole its easy. Either way, you will find that you don't need any special cleaner - plain tap water will do for 99% of the job.

£2.50 a metre might be OK for a bungalow, but for a house - probably twice as much (even more if you are working off ladders).

It's not really possible to give a general 'formula' for working out a quote - you have to 'suck it and see' and learn from any mistakes made.

Be careful - some properties have soffits that are only 6" deep, some have soffits that are 24" deep. Take note before you quote.

So what price would you advise the guy then?

i would charge on a house about £5 to £6.50 a metre working of ladders.
most of the time it works out to be about £40 to £45 each side, thats for fascias, soffits and gutter cleaned.  but without seeing the job its hard to say. hope this helps anyway.
kind regards
paul

i used to charge £40 per side on a standard 3 bed semi its now £60 per side . on average i do 2 per week .
when doing fascia soffits and gutters these are the jobs i really dont want to be doing so i have my price take it or leave it , dont sell your self short when doing this type of work and belive me my prices are cheap compared to some .

So for something that takes 30 minutes TOPS! (one side of a 4 bed detached property) you charge £45.00

£180.00 for 2 hours work?
Quote
no i would charge £60 per side takes a bit longer than 30 minutes per side , next time you are asked to price a fascia clean look at the job as if you dont want to do it then give them your price make the price high .
to get a idea of what to charge phone a company up out of the yellow pages someone like back to white and then you will see that the prices most window cleaners charge is at the cheap end of the scale .
just dont sell yourself short if you dont get the job just move on to the next quote . i dont want to argue about the price i charge or the time taken to do the job , try for yourself next time you quote .

This is where i have gone wrong. It seems a good earner for me because i'm quick.
But i'm only quick cos i've spent on kit that allows me to be.  ???

I HAVE tried and didnt get them. I really dont think Id want to puut in any sort of price MUCH higher anyway. I think most people have a budget, and you go over it you dont get it. I priced a place up yesterday, Ill post pics later, its a gutter job, it'll be interesting.

I like doing uPVC, its  a good earner, I dont think of it as selling myself short because, I think of it as a well priced job done in fairly short period of time, I still feel after working for 2 hours and getting approx £110 is pushing it. Your doing something wrong if they take you as long as you say they take.

With a pole a 4 bed detached (4 sides) shouldnt take more than 2 hours tops, including downpipes and allowing for a garage perhaps or outhouse. Even allowing for spraying prior to rinsing with TFR or Ecover. Come on.....those brushes wizz through the work.

no im doing nothing wrong far from it im just taking my time and doing a good job , yes i agrree they can be done quickly using wfp as ive done loads i just let my standard of work speak for itself and charge the price i want to charge . if i dont get the job when i quote its no big loss but i get more saying yes than no .

I find that by wiping them with a cloth brings them up a treat, i dont bother with cleaning products. From a distance they look great. i do all mine when it is chucking it down. I get loads cos i charge my custies next to nothing so that i can earn money even when it rains. I try and get £20 for a standard semi, takes under an hour, custies think its a bargain. Last time i checked i had around £700 worth of gutters and boards to clean. Rather £100 a day than nothing when it rains.
