Oil stain on decking
«
on:
July 27, 2009, 10:22:35 pm »
I have a pressure washing job coming up and there are what looks like engine oil stains on the decking, what is the best way to try and remove this stain.
The decking has never been painted.
Also this is the first time I have had a decking to clean, I intend to use a fan spray and low pressure - any other advice gratefully received.
Thanks
John

If's its been there a long time and its old black engine oil, forget cleaning it,your'll never get the stain out esp if it was never sealed or painted from the day it was layed.
you could try the old trick of mixing up 50/50 of washing powder and washingup liquid paint it on,let it soak in to try and bleach/draw the oil out, then hot wash it off, but i cant see that working well on old decking,if not
replace the board
sorry

I have told the custy that I can only try and reduce it and that it will not go away completely. (Bum covered)
I was going to try Gunk and giving the stain a scrub with a stiff dish washing brush, just to help take the top off.
The last thing I want is it spreading all over the place.
The people are just moving into the house so nobody actually knows what the stain is. Looks as if engine oil has been carried and spilt, it's not shiny and it's all I can think it can be.

Did the job today - don't know what this stuff was but it came off so easy - just looked like oil.
That was the happy side of the story -
Thanks for your replies
That's all Folks
