A quick slx clamp fix
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:59:15 pm »
Still overjoyed at my slx, and am ordering another shortly.

Today one of the clamps came loose from where it was attached.  This happens i imagine from sharp knocks such as when you are sliding the pole against a roof and catch it, or collapse it too vigorously.

The remedy is probably araldite.

However, what worked well for me and has kept it in place is some electric tape. It's a brilliantly effective 'fix', will not re occur due to sharp knocks, and is easy to reapply should this be necessary.

So, should this happen to you, put some electrical tape round it and the pole and it's sorted.

Not sure what you mean but you won't get loads of aggro, you'll get a much easier and pleasanter work life.

One job i did today i normally stand on their patio chair, and then it's a stretch and the pole is hard to control.Today it was easy....

I was wondering about not using it for gutter cleans, and saving it, but i used it and i'm glad i did.

What we have to remember is that this is relatively high tech equipment, and with so many of us new to it's use there are bound to be things for us all to discover.

All clamps on all poles come unglued if you bash them hard enough. This is not a slx issue, just a thing that happens in time to all pole users. The solution is to re glue it, but if you are working and have no araldite?

So I just mentioned the tape because i think it is better than glue. The lateral strength involved is enormous, and a sharp knock will not affect it.

swc- we are talking about different problems- i mean when the clamp slides off the section it is glued too.

I hope your right m8 i am just a bit worried at the mo because i have allways used x/tel poles and i have had 12 months out off an 18 ft one because i do look after all my gear so spending a lot more money dose worry me  just hope it proves me wrong

i was talking about the bolt come in loose on the clamp and often needs adjusting time after time so the ptfe tape solves that as for clamp come in off the pole gorilla glue is magic, i have had no problems with clamps come in off, yet

I think a few poles didn;t get every clamps glued on. I know 2 of my clamps have not been glued on.

Alex said they should be glued on, so did offer to take the pole back for them to do it, or to send me some glue to do it myself.

I will do the glue work myself at the weekend, but for now im using black electrical tape to wedge/hold the clamp in place on the pole..

Poles great just a few teething things to overcome, but im not bothered as the pole is so good to work with.
