A picture paints a 1000 words
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:57:37 pm »
Hi all,as the topic says,
just might be an idea,if possible,  we all could place a picture here of the issues we all have when asking for advice on certain jobs.
I mean we never can give an exact price to the customer over the phone for their work to be done unless we go and see it.
So,i think to help everyone out i surgest why not take a photo of the job pop it on here, then perhaps we may all get the answer were looking for  ;)
(i bet 90% of us has a phone with a camera ;))

just a thought
 :)

Heres one for you all,
went to price this up yesterday, customer wants all the paintwork of the bricks looking like next doors.
Theres 3 coats of paint on the brickwork top coat is standard masonary, other 2,looks alot like an oil base?
Scaffold is a no no,to costly
Tower is a waste of time, grounds so uneven, limited space
Ladders..............................forget it
So its a one man cherrypicker @ £120 a day
Two guys@ 2 days
Paint release agent
Plus all other costs
Parkings ok
The job is a 35mile round trip
Good water supply, but its from the kitchen sink out the back
When i gave him the price(£875+/-),he fainted, after he came round i asked well how much did you think it would cost, when he told me £300..................i fainted.
When i came round and got back into the van he thanked me for the quote and said i have a decorator who will scrape all the old paint off repaint it again on his own and surpplying the paint for £320 :o
 Good luck to him..............................bye bye

Why are ladders a no no on this?
with two of you it would be very safe, and you could even put the base of the ladder up the the low wall for most of it.

Your to close to the wall itself off a ladder, esp at the top of the gable end, also you know how hard it is jetting anything above eye height esp off a ladder, trust me,its a lot more comfortable and safe if you can be at least a metre away from the surface.
Not only that by the H&S laws ladders are for access, not for working off ???
