Victor Sprite 400
« on: July 20, 2009, 10:41:30 pm »
I've just bought a second hand one for £90 for a large commercial job coming up for agitation purposes.
What are the RPM's? (It says High Speed)
What's the best pads for low profile agitation? (I've got blue pads)
What else can I achieve with this bit of kit and with what other attachments/pads/bonnets/brushes?

You can clean with them but I would make sure you get loads of lubrication on the carpet and pad or polyproplene carpet brush, pads may score or scorch the carpet, bit of practice and you can have a pilots license.

Got one meself in a job lot think they 400rpm was gonna use mine for heavy duty hard floor stripping pretty sure you can check the victor website for specs - too fast I reckon could poss melt/distort? lp carpet tho they are a fair bit lighter than other brands so may not be a prob.  Standard speed is what you need circa 200 rpm.  Ricky T uses a brill rotary setup with additional weight - seems to "bully" the soil  from the carpet...

IMO 240 is too much 170 is more like it Numatic standards are around that.

Colin you needed a slow speed for agitation c. 170 - 200 especially if 17"

It will be useful for other jobs though.

Hi Colin, this is way to fast for carpets.

Be careful where you do use this as they are very pokey and you could possibly throw the earth of its axis!!!

These are great for stripping and polishing hard floors so you may still find a use for it. Worst case they are easy to sell and Victor is one of the best.

I've used my 390 rpm for agitation on commercial and it did a great job.

As already mentioned you will cope in an empty room but will need to spray the area first to avoid abrasion.

If you have loads of pads and some one to keep up a supply of presoaked pads you will probably be OK but..............you will be moving much more quickly than the usual padding pace.

Worth trying out.............we all have our little personalised ways of doing things and you might be lucky.

WHATEVER YOU DO...............KEEP MOVING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS

A brush might be a better option for aggitating than bonnets, or white pads which I've used with encap and are less likely to cause damage.

Back in the days when I bought my own Victor Sprite 400, the speeds were as follows: Standard 230rpm, High Speed 400rpm.  Super High Speed was then something completely different and it may well have been something like 1000rpm.

Today the ratings appear to be different. Standard speed is still 230rpm and I find it quite acceptable for carpet work as long as you don't use it to bonnet wool or "heel in" on synthetics, esp. polyprop.  Todays Super High Speed would appear to be 390rpm and, IMO, not suitable for carpet work, regardless of pad or brush.  I think they may now use the term Ultra High Speed for the zillion rpm machines.

Safe and happy cleaning :)
