Fair enough. ;)

Not all mine goes in either.  Sometimes, if cashflow is very tight, I need to keep some cash back to pay other bills.  I do keep good records of all income/expenditure though.

It's prob just my way of doing it. I pay everything in and set up a standing order for my wages. This stops me from over paying myself and leaves a good "buffer" for unexpected business expences. I can also hand on heart tell my wife that I don't have extra money (in my bills account) so there is no temptation to spend more that my wages. Occasionally as she is a partner she gets a payment from the account.

I also pay my Tax bill on a weekly basis so I hardly notice it going out. The return from investments are so small at the moment the "cost" is small. Plus in the past after saving up for 6 month, 1 I begrudge paying it and 2 there is always the danger that I may feel I need it for somthing else and then have trouble finding it when due.

Just looked up the A&L accounts on line. in small print at bottom it says free for 2 years. I was interested as I am now more than tempted to get all my bank charges back from Barclays and I dare say they will start charging for cheques after that. been 3 days and all cheques still not cleared

Barclays wont refund fees for paying cash in, or putting cheques in etc ie account service charges that YOU argreed to when you opened the account however, they will repay overdraft fees and charges of those kind although unlike personal accounts it isn't covered by oft rules rather under commern law. Because of this business account claims were not subject to the hold put as was the case with personal accounts. However it isn't quite as clear cut as i am making it sound so your best bet is to look on money saving expert and search reclaim businees account charges - They have the whole proceedure explained in detail and also the template letters to send ;)
I dare say they will start charging for cheques after that.
It depends which package you signed upto and how long a free period it gave you. After that if I remember correctly they charge 60 p per cheque >:(

The subject of my original thread was that abbey business is free for life. However when you exceed 100 chqs pm as many of us have, you get charged 50p. IE 105 chq's in a monthly period accrues a charge of £2.50. For those with a lot of cheques you are soon in the £40 -£50 a month territory, so for people like me this is expensive.

Many of us trade and have accounts in a business name, so we can't just put some of the cheques in another account.(if you trade in your own name then of course you can). And the point of my thread was that i think i have found a solution. Open a reserve account and this takes your limit to 200 chqs before you meet charges.

Your right it does say that in the small print, but if you had read on it also says

"Once the 2 years free business banking period is over, you'll be transferred onto our Free Business Current Account, where you'll still continue to receive free business banking".  ::)

You need to get the accounts linked so that when you deposit at the ATM, you get a choice of which account the payments go into.  Mind you, I've no idea if they add up the number of cheques into each account to get the total.  I only ever deposit directly into the main account and have never yet exceeded 100 in a month.
BEWARE !!   Abbey seem to have a glitch whereby they miscount the cheques.  They've tried to charge me twice now in error.  Also, the accounting month starts on the date in the month when you started the account - NOT the 1st of the month necessarily.

Carefully check your bank charges with Abbeyfor this, they have had a system problem that has been charging way too much, my last 2 months were 77-50 and 88-50, took me 7 phone calls to get it refunded.
They have now refunded it a second time, I have rung them and informed them of their mistake, but also pointed out to them that I wont be ringing 7 times to get it sorted!
they took money out from my a/c too, twice in error, so the last time it happened i asked them to pay me back double the amount as it was their mistake, just like tesco refunds you double. They did, and i'm not complaining ;D

The answer is to have a sister company and split the work between the two.
