leather job advice sort
« on: July 13, 2009, 11:37:26 am »
Going to look at leather 3 seat and 2 seater imported(italian) suite that was cream but is now gone yellow i am told. She says the water stays on the arm if tested there and it cost about 5000 dollars when new.I will take some photos and put on here if i can but basically is it likely to be a normal clean or would i need to pass this onto someone who does restoration type work.I would rather walk away than just give it a go so any advice appreciated as always.Regards Alan(swindon)

Hello Alan
This will depend what is cauing the yellowing.
On cream suites it is often caused by sunlight damage and the pigment has been damaged by the UV rays.  If this is the case then cleaning will not restore it and it would need to be recoloured and finished to get it back to its former glory.

The other possible cause is dye transfer from clothing, throws etc.  If this is the case then cleaning with LTT Maxi Cleaner may help as this is specifically designed for this problem.  If this did not remove the dye transfer completely it would then need to be recoloured and refinished.

If you do not do restoration work then it is better to pass on a job like this as cleaning alone is very unlikely to rectify the job completely.

If you need someone to pass it to someone else we can refer the job out on your behalf and earn a %age for you.

Give us a ring if you need any further advice on this.
Cheers
Judy
