cleaning open windows with reach and wash
« on: July 08, 2009, 03:53:21 pm »
This is my first post so go easy on me.Im thinking of getting into the wfp system and i was wondering how people get on cleaning windows on the top floor when they are open.I know that if the customer is in then they would shut them but alot of my customers are out and they leave windows open.People my say just leave them but my job is to clean my customers windows not to leave them if there open.

Yep, pole king is right. Most of the time they shut easily but sometimes they are stiff (ahem! - we are very childish on this site). If they are too stiff and in danger of snapping your pole you can usually still clean them and frames by being careful not to flood the inside. I usually just pinch the hose that comes out of the pole to stop the flow, put the brush on the glass and then release the hose. When you are finished cleaning the glass, pinch the hose again and remove brush from window.
But do try and push window shut first so then you can clean the frames.

On first clean though it is best to close the window as you need to really scrub the frames especailly the top to get all the dirt out of every nook and cranny

I clean these old style windows in the open position with wfp. If you have a rigid pole and control over where the brush is then it is no problem.

On UPVC if it's too stiff to shut easily then I will tap the frame of the opener with the brush several times to shut it. Rarely it won't shut the last 12mm or so and I just clean it anyway.
It's a game of three halves!

Most windows are easy to get round and some customers will close them

occasionally you will actually come across a window that opens in like i did

If you are going to tap the opener with your brush in an attempt to shut it please be more careful than I was a while ago ........

......... a bit over zelous 'cause it cost me a new gooseneck brush :'(

The only time I'm totally stumped is when I come across an old sash type window with the bottom window opened. If the top window is open you can push it up from below; unfortunately you can't pull the bottom window down  :(
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

I had one the other day that was not closing by pushing on the window. So i extended the bottem, thicker, section of my pole and i could close it. Phew  :D

All side hinged inward opening windows and in my area there are lots will give you problems. Some may be on a catch and only open a few inches and this is ok as the water drips on to the inner frame work and down small drain holes in the upvc sill. If they are not fixed on to the catch, the window will fully open as you press the glass with the brush and water will flood the room, floor, wallpaper ect ect. If no one is in to close these type windows and you still clean them wfp, expect complaints.
