Just thought I'd share my findings about flyers that are working for me.

I know when you speak to different people you always get a different answer on this subject, but having spent a bit of time researching direct mailing the thing I picked up was the more information in the flyer / brochure the better sucess rate.

I had some 3 fold A4 flyers printed with a fair amount of information to read including FAQs, a why choose us page, why it's important to clean your carpets & soft furnishings and a page showing all our cleaning services and the green clean sell.

Now I'm not very good when it comes to delivering my flyers, getting fed up rather quickly, but the past 3 weeks have got me a fair amount of work, most shocking was a culdesac I sent the flyers to last week, a total of about 50 houses and got 3 calls all converted to jobs totaling £280, put a business card in with the flyer as well.

If you leaflet the same cul de sac again you'll probably get another 3 because neighbours talk.

I think frequency of delivery are more important than content. It doe have to be a good leaflet though.

Hi, I have designed and printed, my own threefold leaflets and posted them for the last 10 years, and have always had a very good response from them, I think the thing is with a single a5 sheet of paper it is too easy for them to screw it up and throw it away.
But with a threefold let's say in a hundred and 20 g, they tend to keep it rather than throw it away, I get at least one in every 50, and even a year later will still get response from that posting.
PS, print my own using laser, quite expensive for toner cartridges, but if something doesn't work you can change your leaflet there and then, and of course the ink is waterproof.

  I've been doing alot of neighbour nudging recently and it's really paying off. A covering letter together with a a5 leaflet. Only doing 10-15 houses on each job. Picked up 3 extra jobs today for 10 mins work.

If you do nothing you get nothing, trouble is that you still need to do some advertising of sorts even when you have been doing it for 20 years or more as there's loads of competition who will entice your customer.

if tomorrow I get 2 leaflets:

1) a tr-folded A4 full colour, badd-ass, super-duper leaflet with lots of Information on imprinted concrete drives

2)and the other, a single colour A5 leaflet with 3 words 'MOHOGANY BEDROOM FURNITURE'  and a phone number

I would bin the first one and ring the second one....... guess why!!

quantity not quality is the key, find the person who wants your services..... and the way to do that is with quantity! 

as long as your leaflet isn't totally crap they will call.

Shaun yes you need addvertise your biz but if you can make that client/s loyal to you with out giving too much away then your on a winner and they breed more clients that will stay loyal .
Im new but this is my own personal findings to date and the Jan-Dec 1-31s are looking better each month

Yes quantity will get you work, but as we all know the percentage of people that have their carpets cleaned in the UK is still very low.

If you put the right info in your leaflets you can actually pursuade / convert ( SCARE!!  ) the ones that have previously never had their carpets cleaned and if you don't do this, it'll never change, educate your custy's.

The next thing is to entise them to read the brochure, if it looks the part your increasing those chances, think about getting a professional graphic designer involved, read some articles on the net, think who your flyer is aimed at (the woman of the house usually) colour scheme, no spelling mistakes and good grammer.

If a custy gets 2 CC flyers, make sure it's you they call.

Scare tactics not a good idea..............will just encourage even more to replace with hard flooring. Thought hard flooring was an the wane, but laminate seems to be getting replaced with higher quality / more expensive real or realistic timbers.

Hi all, we all try flyers flyers and more flyers has any one tried community magazines??

I have just placed an add for a 1/4 of page for £33 per per month and just got 17 domestic cleans

After all magazines have been pushed out by the publisher it will be 5,000 so im looking gooood 

Try it fokes it is better than yell, people dont pick up yellow pages to read but they do look through this directory!!!

i go in a lot of magazines good flow of work a lot depends on position in the book if you cant get in the first half dozen pages forget it. also check out the book yourself go in the good quality books that are also a decent read.

I agree, i read a few first as they do have local stories and events ect.

For a half page i would £70 and 120 for a full page, they do work ike you said if you get the right area and place what people want to read short and sweet message plenty of colour.

This publisher has 5 areas and has 5-9,000 hand outs each book.

The oven cleaner i got this idea off he has 60% from it

Not sure about volume of leaflets if you are self delivering, you need a better job to leaflet and a well designed leafet with good information will do that.

My website host design and prints mine and he has a promotion service and his street team takes the leaflets and push them through the doors or to commercial buildings.

Works very well and cheap i have 5,000 flyers going out and cost £250 - design print promote

I have seen leaflet response go down steadily over the last year. I think it's due to more competition, either new guys or fast trackers with their 20k RM drops.

I only do an hour a day now to relax and listen to my Ipod. Down at least 2 jobs a week from this source now.

Mike I agree that the response has dropped over the last 5 yrs, I'm doing 30k a month to bring in the same amount of work that 20k did 5yrs ago. luckily I've increased my prices greatly over that time so My leaflets are more profitable than in the past.

30,000 leaflets a month! Wow! That's a thousand a day! (Yes, I know I'm good at maths )

If it's not giving away trade secrets how much does that cost to have produced? (And I'm not even asking for the costs of distribution) I know your leaflets will be at the top end of prices because of the quality of paper and full colour printing, but I'm really interested in the cost.

I know you probably get a higher than average take-up as you consistently leaflet the same areas regularly, so what percentage of your revenue goes on advertising? (You may prefer to answer(if at all) in terms of say, less than 5% or less than 10% or another figure?)

I only ask because I have never done leaflets, I've only ever done YP, but I do also pay out percentages to business introducers. For the record my percentage of advertising to revenue generated is about 7%.
