gutter vac...which vehicle?
« on: July 05, 2009, 12:00:59 pm »
Right...in a bit of a predicament....After a lot of hard saving am able to treat myself to a very nice car! (looking at either RX8 or 3 series conv)

BUT...as always, thinking how can i use this to expand.

So, been thinking, those of you that have the FULL gutter vac set up, would you say it would all fit in a L200 or Navara?  Obviously with a truck top fitted.

So that would be the vac, gennie, pressure washer, camera, hoses. The tubes etc could go on top.

If does...can double up as my social vehicle!!!

Anyone???

Hi,  no expert in van sizes but  for my two penneth worth i would say NO!

Why, well i have all the gutter vac equipment in the back of my peugeot expert van & to be honest i am currently in nagotiations about changing to a bigger van?

if you consider that these vac need a fairly large genie, decent pressure washer plus the vac it does take up a load os space... plus you will definitly need to be taking the genie & pressure washer of all the time ( depending on which type of work you want) & add to that the water tank you may need to carry ( not all clients are in & you have no access to a supply).

i thought it would be ok for my van, but as mentioned it is a different ball game once you start???

best of luck

james

Mick, what do you want the pressure washer bit for?
The rest would fit in bar a tank I would have thought but if you are using a large washer you'll need a supply of some sort and a holding tank/wheely bin.

Well, this is one thing I've often wondered, do I need a pressure washer, and to be honest, I'm only really going to concentrate on domestic! Do you think I can do without one?

I had a long wheel base transporter but found it to small, i now have a mwb renault master which is only just big enough for all the gutter vac kit and 1000litre system with side door mounted hose reel.

The pressure washer will get you out of a tight spot,i hardly use it but its a must if you do blocks of flats but on houses you could probably get away without one as it can be cleared with ladders

I think the gutter vac kit will go in the pickup but will be a pain to work with, its also pretty high to lift equipment in & out

Mick, I have a small but high quality electric pressure washer as a backup really, I have a drain jetter that I can use and also a lance which will hook over the hopper so I can blast a narrow jet down from the top. I'm only drawing 7lpm so can connect to a custys tap or give it a blast with pure from my van. So far i've not really had to use it much. If you don't mind the odd clamber up a ladder I reckon you could do without or certainly use a small one. If your using a genny anyway why bother with a large petrol washer?
Camera? I have one (my own) but rarely use it - you know by feel and the tone of the vac what's happening, sometimes i'll set it up to impress the custy but it's not really needed. Ladders however are handy for when you knock that end cap off or when a wobbly swan neck comes apart.
Just my thoughts, no doubt others have different ideas.
