How do you work out cost of Chemicals / bags for job
«

I was wondering if anyone had an accurate way of finding out how much it actually costs to supply cleaning chemicals i.e. toilet cleaner / black bags for a contract.
I know contracts vary in amount of hours / people .. and many other factors
We have done it just through past experience and recorded how much we used on past jobs.
We also record this on new jobs and review it every 3 - 6 months. Then we work out an average.
Has anyone done it different or do this differently.
cheers

We just include these things in the quote from day one. There's no real need to charge them as separate items is there?

Hi Heritage,
No, we include them in the price. However what I was asking is how do you or other people monitor the usage of chemicals and supplies that are included in the price.
For example if you own a company vehicle you record your milage. So you know the mile you have done each week and you also have an idea of the petrol that you used.
Just wondered if there was another way for the chemicals so we knew exactly what profit we were actually getting out of a contract.

My experience is that the use of black bags and the proudcts is entirely down to the cleaner using them and not the actual job itself. I gave up thinking about it in the end as i couldnt ever get people who worked for me to be less heavy handed.

hi there
cost 5% onto the weekly charge for the materials. black sacks, and washroom supplies are all charged extra as required.
with regards to monitoring usage etc, i know exactly what you mean as i have had operatives, that have used far more than required, and in some cases far more than is actually possible, so a bit of training was called for to resolve the usage issues.
regards
