Nice customer of mine in a very large four bed in a very sought after area of town - "how much to clean the gutters?"
Now because I like them i put in a silly low quote of £40 to clean them and probably double to empty them too. The guys eyes nearly popped out of his head you'd think i'd just bonked his wife! I told them to phone around and try someone else.

I get that too ftp. Then later they want me to do it like they are doing me a favour. At that point i wish i'd gone higher because you'll do it but they still think it's a rip off, and we resent working for nothing.

Sounds silly but i try not too do one off work for customers, becuase most do that!!!

THey expect favours from you. one guy kept asking me to just nip up and clean his gutters for a few quid, and he used to always say leave the back today - i dont do them anymore i just stopped, he is a time waster

Some people want something for nothing. I used to price on what i thought i could get. Now i charge what i want for the job

I picked up a fascias job today with conservatory roof (easy one and not that dirty) and regular windows. Its a regular £17 8 weekly job and all in i quoted £100. Guy said yes on the spot. He told me he usually does it and just the fascias take him the best part of a weekend.

Say he did 15 hours cleaning and could earn £30 an hour in his job.... it makes sense to pay someone to do it. If you look at it that way or what price do you put on family time then it makes sense.

Some people just dont get it though ::)
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go
