I wouldn't tell them either.  They may get a bit jealous when they find out you're off for a two-week cruise round the Med, and they're struggling to get a weekend away camping; especially if you're their 'scabby window cleaner' who just splashes some water round their house for a few minutes and then knocks for a tenner.

Very True Tosh, I told a customer last year i would be a week late with there window cleaning due to Holiday, the reply i got was " I must be paying you to much" ( £10.00) She said before shutting door, i want to cancel
i could do without this sort of custormer.

If your going away for 2 weeks + tell them you have a family personal issue that needs sorting, that`s a good enough excuse lol. ;D ;D

I would just tell your favourite customers ( the ones who tip etc!!!) and if any of the others ask why your late ( but most wont even notice) tell them weather etc has held you up!!!

I dont go away in the summer for longer than a week, so not to get too far behind

I leave it until the winter and say its annual leave, if i go on hols or not.

First 2 weeks of January are not worked, and all customers are made aware of this fact - and i word it as such so that feel that they are getting a payment break.

But you could say due to a death in the family you will be away for a week so regular work will be disrupted, but you will get back to normal asap.

Tell them its annual leave not holidays as this doesnt neccesarily imply your going away and tell them face to face. dont give them a letter, you dont know who's gonna read it. I do think its only polite to give them warning though.
