What happens when mods get into stuck gramophone record mode themselves. You really should stick to window cleaning issues and leave the overlong surgical metaphors be.I believe your starting point was poinless posts- well i guess it takes one to know one.

For any one interested in Joe's 'best flyer in the world ever', or if you want to see 'the flyer they tried to ban', please start hitting this thread. A proof version is now in circulation along with a short video demonstrating it's effectiveness.

I have seen Joe's video of the flier and I do think if this falls on your doormat you will not throw it straight into the bin without first reading it and to me getting a potential customer to read a flier in the first place is a huge part of the battle, how many fliers do we read when we pick them up from the door mat??? I know I must read 10% well if Joe's flier was to fall on my mat then it would fall into that 10% and I would read it because curiosity killed the cat???

Now if this was a sensible thread purely about the how's & why to's of thread moderating half the replies would be deleted as pointless! (and some of those deliberately so!)

Members can read threads or not read them as they so choose, contributing to them if they so desire, but in 'mod' mode you have to read them in a different light, often when someone posts some naff comment out of real context with the thread it ends out de-railing it and there can be endless 'chaff' to sift through to get to the genuine responses, and often someone can be looking for a particular answer to a query or problem they have and get frustrated because of all the off topic stuff.
As mods we have to try and keep a thread on track, doesn't matter if I personally think the banter is pretty funny, or if even with a different 'hat' on I would make a comment of my own, ergo I personally will delete what I view in 'mod' mode as pointless replies.
Occasionally a reply or two can be allowed to slide past as others keep the thread on topic, but when they turn into bloody 'thread virus's' the scalpel of moderation is drawn into play as I surgically hack into the thread to cut out the cancerous replies killing the thread.... ;D (I enjoyed that turn of phrase ;))

As has been said many times before, you want to 'chat' then go to the relevant section of the forum to do so, get caught doing it on this section and whether you like it or not, if noticed your replies will be deleted or, as Dave has done, an entire thread will be locked.

Ian

Stop hi jacking the thread

You are de railing it

Gosh

ok i have kept you all waiting long enough, but that was due to some technical problems and getting the templates right, as you will see when i put it up at tonight at some point, all my dummy runs where 100% successfully everyone took and read them, also they kept them ,let me get things ready, well i leared a lesson from this, not to post before completion  ;D

Quite correct....this is a pointless thread, meandering and basically useless, but that doesn't mean I also cannot contribute to it in an equally pointless way and in doing so, also point out to anyone who can be arsed to read what I say, just how a moderator  has to look at a thread...and this thread is also about moderating...as against window cleaning...

I'm not bothering to moderate this thread (unless it gets profane and so on) it can go where it likes, someone else can do the business.
I actually wish I could come on here and goad people, twist the knife, I do to a point sometimes, but I don't do it clumsily...
I've lost count of the times I've almost 'retired' from moderating, not because posters whine when their replies have been deleted or their thread locked, but because so many just don't seem to get the rules here, no matter how many times they are pointed out!

Should be a premiership referee, bet it pays a whole lot more too for doing the same job.

now because i was rushed, i am showing my first templates of the flyers, but to me they are excellent, not one person resisted taking one and reading them, this flyer will be your business card to, they are very impressive, instead of wasting time canvassing just drop them anywhere you like, the flyer will be lifted almost immediately, so you wont get done for littering lol, hit the supermarkets garages, even drop them in your targeted area, any where yo want, there's no limit to this flyer,

Simples really.. Just MOVE the thread to the CHAT section, then its no longer off topic regardless.

Once you rule with a heavy hand people will have to get used to it or go elsewhere.. ive moderated many forums before, and although some people dont like it, the majority do.

By doing nothing for lots of  threads then all of a sudden a moderator get the hump or feels it not worth to keep it going just 1 thread gets closed. Its not that way it should be done, and just brings it to attention more.

Be more moderated in your ways, or just leave everything, dont do half measures!

(by the way that was not directed to anyone just said out loud to anyone still stupid enough to be reading this NOW pointless chat thread)

Jouk, you've done nothing wrong!

GWCS,

Sometimes leaving a thread such as this one can help highlight the problem...for those that waste their time reading it that is!
I rarely lock a thread, usually I'll move it if it is chat or spend forever removing post after endless post until only the salient ones are left....and on a thread like this I feel I can have a good whinge!...even if it should now be over on the chat section...maybe Dave will move it...or lock it...he likes locking threads ;D ;)

The point of the original thread was to allow Joe's exposition of 'the best flyer ever'.We all wanted to know what it was.

I think you've made a pretty good job of it joe.Well done.

and i have changed almost everything on it, but to the untrained eye they are fooled into thinking it is real from at least 3ft upwards, so walking by one on the street head height can be 5ft upwards, it works and i have proved it, did dummy runs it works simple as that, and no shopkeeper would be fooled to accepting it,

I dont agree in locking - because someone will just start another one up regardless - just like this one  ::)

Still least we came to an outcome and the flyer got posted :P

Personally id prefer all chat threads to be moved asap. Keep relevant window cleaning issues in the right place and chat elsewhere - it makes easier navigation and reading for all.

Most people will always post in the main used section regardless of other titled sections. There is a for sale section yet people still post here - why because they are too lazy or the readers are too lazy to move to another section..

anyway off topic - nice flyer idea jouk45
