Tom Gower was one of the highlights for me. He came on and got into a fight, and then joined in the humour.

His suggestion for joe's world beater was a picture of naked man covered only by a strategic cowboy hat, with the strap line ring and all will be revealed.

I liked the fact that he took us at face value.

I never usually get involved,

I had a few complaints about the usual suspects insulting each other, so i started to tidy up the forum.

I deleted all the insults, got rid of the useless threads, which the post in question was one of them.

I have to act when i am tired, when i am fed up or even when i have got better things to do.

I make a quick decision of what to do, some people get offended by it, some people can see why it needs to be done.
If some of you got on better with each other, not naming names then i wouldnt have so much moderating to do and i would just leave 99% of things alone.

I would hate to read every bloody thread, every day like the mods have to. I can watch Top Gear or Casualty 1909 if I want. From the amount of traffic on here in one day, every day, I would make more than one mistake or bad call.

In the time, I've been on here, Jouk's thread being deleted, just surprised me.

As I said before, that thread stood on it's own merrits. If you look at other forums, this one has 50 times more traffic, there must be at least 150 heavy posters on here, unlike me, that post quality advice, mostly about WFP. As you know, I'm trad and don't count myself to the quality posters, so because you have made a mistake Dave, stand in the corner for 10 minutes and no talking.

Cozy

glad someone understands.

If the post was genuine, it would be started again, IMO i thought it was just a wind up.

I could be wrong

RWC

People do complain, the only reason i was tidying up was because of complaints, mostly about people insulting each other.

People complain about pointless threads as well, why would members want to read through 3 pages of chat. Some people dont mind, but a lot of people do mind.

I think you do a great job, and as you know you have helped me with good advice about quotes etc.

Locking and then deleting the thread did add to the sense of theatre, and was blackly funny too as we were all hanging on for the final answer.

If i was a mod id have far more complaints. It is a shame that joe has been left a little dazed, a sort of susan boyle scenario where he devised a wonderment topic that sent us all beserk hitting it, and then next thing he's off. But we shouldn't turn you into simon cowell because of that.

I accept what you say.

If I'm watching BBC News Dave, and Top Gear is starting on BBC and I want to watch it, do I keep watching BBC News, or do I change channels?

If a thread goes downhill after 10 posts, I read a different thread.

Just because it doesn't interest me, doesn't mean it's crap.

Rather you than me  ;)

Now if this was a sensible thread purely about the how's & why to's of thread moderating half the replies would be deleted as pointless! (and some of those deliberately so!)

Members can read threads or not read them as they so choose, contributing to them if they so desire, but in 'mod' mode you have to read them in a different light, often when someone posts some naff comment out of real context with the thread it ends out de-railing it and there can be endless 'chaff' to sift through to get to the genuine responses, and often someone can be looking for a particular answer to a query or problem they have and get frustrated because of all the off topic stuff.
As mods we have to try and keep a thread on track, doesn't matter if I personally think the banter is pretty funny, or if even with a different 'hat' on I would make a comment of my own, ergo I personally will delete what I view in 'mod' mode as pointless replies.
Occasionally a reply or two can be allowed to slide past as others keep the thread on topic, but when they turn into bloody 'thread virus's' the scalpel of moderation is drawn into play as I surgically hack into the thread to cut out the cancerous replies killing the thread.... ;D (I enjoyed that turn of phrase ;))

As has been said many times before, you want to 'chat' then go to the relevant section of the forum to do so, get caught doing it on this section and whether you like it or not, if noticed your replies will be deleted or, as Dave has done, an entire thread will be locked.
