If it's northern ireland then yeah because it's part of the uk  but southern ireland is on euros.. make sure it IS northern irish, the southern irish ones were called "punts" before they changed over to euros

Did the guy live in a caravan and had a van full of tarmac equipment?
Was a dog offered as part payment?

Its cos they are not real  ;D

TBH, its because they are not used in england/wales they are met with "err.. whats that"!? when they are presented. So what do you expect? Ive never been handed one, and never seen one either (only a picture) so you can understand why.

Dont know why you lot up there cant use the same as all of us - would make your lives much simpler down here :P

Scottish, N.Ireland or England, if it has the word "Sterling" on the banknote it is legal tender and valid anywhere in the UK.

I don't like them either because of the doubtful looks you get in the corner shop; but trust me they're kosher.

It won't say South because Eire isn't part of the UK and uses Euros.

Thats not completely true as the "streling "we use over here in northern ireland cant be used over in england and this is the reason when we go to england we have to go to the bank and get english bank notes!!! its so stupid i know, but you cant even buy a pint in a bar in england unless its an english note, they give you a very funny look as if your handing over monopoly money!!

We take your money, why cant you take ours?
it is all sterling. I can remember as far back as 1982
when i went to Blackpool . the trouble i had with shops
when trying to spend Northern Irish money was unbelievable.
The guest house i stayed in was not a problem,if your buying a drink
it was welcomed with open arms but go into a shop and its a no no.
I started out with nothing......I still have most of it.
