I put it into a sentence when i am being too bombastic, or knowally, and need to temper it a little with some humility, or acceptance that there might be different views.

The one that i really never understood and was often used in private eye and new statesman was (sic). This was used rather a lot, a bit like lol is now.

What did SIC stand for?  ;D

Sic is a Latin word meaning "thus", "so", "as such", or "in such a manner". In writing, it is placed within square brackets and usually italicized – [sic] – to indicate that an incorrect or unusual spelling, phrase, punctuation, and/or other preceding quoted material has been reproduced verbatim from the quoted original and is not a transcription error
