I've just been asked to remove some chewing gum along with a few other things. I can get hold of a steamer, but how do I go about pricing the job?
I need to get thequote in soonish.

Any ideas?

I count the number of pieces in 3 seperate mtr square areas to give the average number of pieces per square mtr, times that by the total area to give the total pieces. The time taken by my osprey is about 12 - 15 secs so you times that by the total area to give the time for the job - times that by your rate

How about chemicals?how much will i need per metre and how much are they?

I use a cold pressure washer at the mo for my usual stuff, but i asume i will need a steam cleaner, is that right?

Been to look at it and it is bad chewing gummed!
We're looking at 40 pieces per metre on average.
So 15 secs per piece = 1 metre every 10 mins - 6 metres per hour

ive got about 1,000 m2 to clean. - so that will be 166 hours! What is a fair amount to charge for this? £20 or £50. I dont want to sell myself short incase it takes longer than i thought

£35 - £40 per hour + Vat minimum for this kind of work. You've fuel & maintenance costs on top of your normal expenses remember.

If we're talking of about 40 pieces per metre, how many metres would you be able to do in one hour?

well most people charge around 40 to 50 quid an hour for just jet washing so would it not be more for gum removal?

If its that bad I would'nt look at doing it with the steamer but it depends if you can shut areas down, water supply, drainage etc. You need to employ someone thats keen but with a very small mind

Ive got a very nice friend whos letting me use his hot washer for next to nothing. So i'll be using that. the chewing gum is on tarmac(good condition) so I have been told steam is not a good idea.
I will have someone with me scraping, sweeping and bagging the gum. Also, I will be doing a couple of night shifts to get the main areas done when there will be noone around and coning off other areas in the day - this is no problem.

M-Clean - Is it likely to do 6 metres an hour or 16 metres an hour with this set up?

on tarmac you need to turn the pressure right down but still have plenty of heat if i was you i would tell them you will do a trial area then work your price out from the time it takes you, depending on surface i can remove between 15 to 25 peices of gum a minute with my set up but if your going to tackle it with a steamer then you willbe lucky to be doing 6 pieces a minute.

no i dont use a hotbox but they do work well, mine is a thermic 17 trailer mounted their is a picture of it on my website
