DIY wfp or professional fit
« on: June 24, 2009, 05:17:43 pm »
Hi, Going to convert to wfp in next couple of months, what i need to know is what advantage is having wfp fitted by  professionals.

I have had  a demonstration by ironic, great kit but very expensive, now going to go for pure freedom set up, i live in Essex so it will be good 4 hours drive there and then another 4 hours back.

So is is worth driving 8 hours to get kit fitted or should i just buy the set up and fit myself.
Or does anyone know of a good quality set up,  but now at the ironic price, that can be fitted in Essex

Thanks
Darren

I travelled from the South Coast 6-7 hours each way, well worth it IMO

I built mine myself.  A friend of mine has a £3500 Ionic system which I worked out would cost £1400 to build (at the most)

Plus building it myself means I know exactly how the system works, which means if something goes wrong I can troubleshoot it easily, or if I want to tweak something (upgraditus!) I know what to do.

Otherwise you'll be in Ionics pocket, and out of pocket at the same time!

I should think that anyone with the confidence and skill to build their own wouldn't consider buying a ready made.

All the parts are readily available and you can shop around for the best deals and should be able to build a perfectly good system for about a third the price of a ready built.

If you don't have the necessary, then you've got no choice - dip into your wallet ;D

In the same position myself couple months ago, ordered from pure freedom and booked to have it fitted by them but changed my mind and got pure freedom to delivery kit to me then fitted van out myself.  Took a day to do and wasn't that difficult, I saved myself a lot on money. If you've had no expererience with wfp I would strongly recommend finding someone local and spending a day with them.

nothing more to add

but watch the "fan boys" who will come along as say " no, you need to buy off "insert supplier" as they are professional / insured / other crap

With a little research on this forum you will be armed with the right information to enable you to build a system for yourself...ok so have a cage made and fitted may be best completed by professional (unless of course you are good at this type of thing)...

And as someone else said..you'll be knowledgable about it's workings to fix any issues you may get........I reckon you could build yourself a nice system with a hot box for the price of a standard Ionics system....

Do you maths and yo'll be very suprised...and best of all the guys on here will help you out in the design process.

Cheers
Dave.

It is very simple to fit, I have a pure freedom 350litre system which I fitted myself it took all of one day to fit lol.
The DIY setup comes with very clear instructions. any problems give me a ring and I help you set it up when I'm down in essex usually 2-3 days a week down there.

I found that doing it myself wasn't really that much cheaper at all compared to a purefreedom system. Yes it works, and I know exactly how it works because of that. But do yourself a favour, and just get it booked in, enjoy the day around in Grimsby, and have a professionally fitted but still cheap system.

I have recently built my first system. A friend of mine who is a window cleaner helped me source parts.

The only thing i would not do again is my cage for my van tank. It was to much hassle and took to much time after building it only to find out it wont go through the van door, cutting it in half and then securing it.

I would get a professional to secure the tank next time. But i would to the rest myself. Thats just my view.

When costing a DIY system take into account the time involved and the cost of getting a fabricator to design/build/install a tank cage. DIY is good, but do it right if you're going to do it.

I used to recommend DIY every time, but every 2nd photo on here shows a tank that isn't properly installed & that's a potential death trap. Why swap ladders for a different risk, eliminate as much risk as possible!!

IMO Pure Freedom off unbeatable value for money,.. if you haven't the knowledge & skill to do the job properly then it's well worth travelling. Remember that you'll need to add the cost of hose/reel/poles/brushes/split charge relay etc to most of their standard packages though.

Pure freedom kit comes with everything you need including hoses, poles, all connections etc. Only thing extra I had to buy was battery, charger and 2 crocodile clips. Made the change for 800.00- can't go wrong!!

I agree with this, but on the other hand it can take ALOT of learning by default.(and some times buying new parts) and so be prepared for that.

Horses for courses. I went to Grimsby  had fish and chips, walked around for a few hours, paid  £2500  for a 500l 450gpd system,  collected van and drove home. Job done no headaches. Have  had it for  20 months never had a problem.
