I know it's a long shot but sometimes carpets can be identified from just a photo.

I went to clean this carpet a few years ago and remember having virtually zero success with it. I have been called back to do it again (different) tenant and I want to try something different on it this time.

At the time when I first attempted it I had been cleaning carpets for about 3 years so I had done plenty and this is the only one that I failed on! I remember that the dirt on it didn't hardly budge at all, making no noticeable difference, I obviously had to leave without charging the customer and feeling a little embarrassed. The landlord has apparently had several cleaners in since and I have heard none of them have managed to clean it.

I really can't recall much about the carpet which is why I was hoping someone may recognise it. I cannot recall what it was made from. Back then I only had a little Pneumatic CTD-572 (I now have a CFR 500 Perfect Heat) but I used to use a rotary brush to agitate before cleaning. I will probably have used Prochem Power Burst or maybe Double Clean as those were the most common products I was using back then (and still now.)

If anyone does recognise this carpet could you please give me a recommendation as what to try. My supplier has recommended I give Prochem's Ultrapac Renovate a try (although he hasn't seen the carpet.)

Whatever I try needs to be readily available in West Yorks or by speedy delivery as I am booked to do the job on Saturday.

It looks like an old wool carpet from the 60's, I would expect it to clean well, have you tried prochems power burst?

I think it was Power Burst that I tried last time, but I may be wrong.

if it's a few years since you cleaned it it wasn't Powerburst as it wasn't in existance then.
It could be an acrylic axminster.

This kind of woven carpet very rarely responds to cleaning if it hasn't been cleaned on a regular basis. Its basically 50% white wool. And the fibres in the traffic lanes become abraded and degraded due to the constant wear and dirt. This dulls the fibres. Judging from the photo there appears to be quite a bit of wear which is also allowing the dark backing to show through.

Dwell - agitate - dwell - extract with Double Clean.
Wool or not it won't matter too much if it's old and in rented accomadation.

I'll try this as I already have the PB and DC, just need to get some Citra Boost.

Make sure you check for colour bleed first. Have you done a float test and checked the backing to make sure its not a BW?

As I stated - it's the only carpet that I have failed to clean satisfactorily. But thanks for your concern.

a few years ago he tried to clean that carpet, so must assume he is past the stage of basic training, though none of us are past benefitting from further training.

I'm harping on about Ultrapak Renovate this week but alot of black marks and treads are protiens and oils, hot UP Ren will break them down far better than anything else, aggitation and hwe.

I hate the feeling of being defeated, but sometimes it's better than making it worse. If numerous other cleaners have 'failed' it's just an ego trip which could bite you in the arse.

Sounds like the white fibres have degraded and the 'grey' is an optical illusion which no amout of cleaning will fix.

Yes Shaun, everything is going well, well impressed with the TM, should have done it years ago.
I have started the contract for the west yorks stores, still trying to sort other areas out, hopefully i will be trying to get some guys off here to take some of them on in the next few months, I know Derek is interested i just have not had time to sort the details with him as yet, i am on 7 days sometimes 12 - 14 hours at the minuite.
