« on: June 13, 2009, 10:39:49 am »
Its been a long time, rarely use the forum these days, so "Hello" to all the regulars! Anyway, where is the best place in the North to get a tank fitted? Im looking at fitting for another 2 vans, I dont need systems, simply a tank fitting service for the Wydale tanks, or to buy a tank and cage together and have it fitted, thanks for your help people.!

Do it yourself:

Two lengths of heavy angle iron across the van bed and bolted down through the nearest convenient chassis members - two 10mm high tensile bolts per length.  Drill the upright web to accept the claws of a pair of 10ton ratchet straps - this overcomes the problem of not having suitable anchor points directly under the fitting points of a cage.

Tank goes between the two angle irons and ratchet straps go over, fore and aft arrangement.

ADVANTAGE:

1 - The tank is almost instantly removable, so isn't 'fitted' and doesn't affect your insurance, it's just a bit of cargo held by restraining straps.

2 - This system is so strong it will rip the chassis out of the van before it gives way.

I think you would be on a sticky one saying that it is not fitted to the van Ian as you have gone through the chassis.

Insurance does not go up if you explain the details of the tank, you just have a limited number of insurers, I use commercial vehicle dirt for one of my vans, just just cant do it online though as under writers to ok the tank

Surely the plastic tank is not strong enough to withhold the load inside with just 2 straps? Im sure you'd need a cage to hold the tank in place to at least spread the load on the tank plastic, otherwise the plastic tank will just give way and burst?

However nice idea..

Interesting what insurers would say to that..

i like it, but what do you reckon the force of a 600ltr tank would be in a 40mph bump/slam on braking..... i'm thinking more than the ratchets could take? or not?

Might be better if it did burst?

It's not half a tonne at 40mph. It's about 40 times the force of gravity (G), so that 500Kg would be around 20000Kg in an accident.

Ever seen that commercial when the dog on the back seat becomes a baby elephant in an accident? Result? Front passenger = dead. Now imagine it's not a 25Kg dog, but 500 liters of water (500Kg) + tank, and cage.

Even though ratchet straps can be rated that level, I would not ever trust my life to them. It's just not safe enough.

Asked to see his sign written van on here, got a NO NO. always got a big story, never failed, gone wrong, always gets £100 per hour etc etc. Maybe it's just me ??? maybe i'm reading him wrong , but like i've always said if you've got it show it. We can all write what we want people to hear and add the B/S' who really knows who's on the other end of the key board?
