How can I reduce the amount of waste water produced by my R0-man 200gpd system? And what are the downsides if I do? I think I just place more flow resisters in the waste line. Is that right?

if you have a manual flush you can adjust the lever to send less waste down. but this will increase your tds going into the DI, its usually a fine balance.
to make it more efficient a booster pump will increase production and make less waste ratio

i just fit a little 6mm tap to the waste pipe and turn it a 1/4 closed, the only downside is the membrane are s.posed to not last as long

The system is manufactured like that for a reason. If you start tampering with restrictors etc then you will get more adverse results somewhere.
A booster pump will help, as will regular flushing.
