Starting up advice
« on: June 04, 2009, 10:14:44 am »
Hi all,

I've been carpet cleaning for a number of years now and am looking to move into window cleaning using the water fed system.  I've been doing loads of reading on this forum and have learnt alot from you guys.
I'm looking to purchase the pure freedom system but rather than ask them i thought i'd ask you as you are the ones doing it everyday.
There will be two of us operating together and we are looking to start with a client base of about 300 houses, mix of 3 and 4 bedrooms.
The system i've looked at has a 650 litre tank with two poles from it. questions i have are, how many houses do you think i will be able to clean with that water, will i be better with an RO system and a static tank in my garage and a DI system in the van or the entire system in the van.
How long will it take to fill the 650 llitres of water for the tank and what kind of waste i will get using a 40'' RO system.

Many thanks in anticipation of your answers.
Mike.

Hi mate.

I did it the other way round, window cleaning first and then carpets. I have a 400l tank and it usually lasts me a whole day unless I'm doing a lot of first cleans where I need more water. I have the whole system in the van and usually just fill it up over night. I'm not too sure to be honest how long it takes; I plug it in after my dinner and unplug it in the morning ..... that's quite bad really isn't it, I should take more notice  :-\.

Anyway, good luck with it, it's nicer than carpet cleaning in the summer, not so in the winter; much better to be in someone's living room drinking their tea and eating their bikkies when it's minus 2 outside  ;D
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

Thanks for that - and yea you're right - i think i'll miss the warm indoors and the biccies during the winter - how many houses do you get through with the 400ltr tank?

i dont think you can answer the question, how many houses can be done with a 400 ltr tank, cos all houses are differant, some windows are more dirty than others, some clean easier than others ( phillic, phobic ) glass, what i would say is get the biggest tank possible, its always better to have more water than not enough. just think of your busiest day that you will ever have, not the everyday water usage.

Carpet Genie, I got a purefreedom system just over a year ago I had the filters, ro etc all in the van, since moving house i have since taken it all out of the van and built a static system which is so much better for me, if i only need to top up its there, i can fill to where i want instead of carrying a full load every day, theres always water ready if i ever need anymore which has never happened yet, a 650 ltr tank will deffinatly be enough for now with 300 custys a month as thats roughly what a one man band does in a month so obviously your going to probs at least double in size and when this happens there maybe a time where you need to top up tank in van so static will be best bet if you have the space,

do you know your pressure from mains my old house was 30psi which took about 10 hours to fill my 650 tank, my pressure in new house is 70 psi which takes about 4.5 hours to fill tank.

As a rough guide 300 - 500l of water a day for one person on relativly compact regular domestic work so in theory 650 should be fine for two people. I agree with stephen though more is better, if you can go for 800 - 1000l. If you plan to grow the bussines you wont regret it in the long term.

Don't have ro and di in the van.
Keep things simple and just use the van for transporting pure water. There is no point having a van connected to a tap for hours when it can be done at home without supervision.
A submersible pump will transfer 400 litres of water to your van in under 5 minutes and your gone.

I have a 350 litre tank and that is just about lasting me all day, unless I have a conservatory roof etc.
I have the 200GPD system from purefreedom and it fills at a rate of 25litres per hour. but if you have a 4040 ro system or a merlin it will fill up alot quicker.
Personally I would have the RO and DI in the van and take it from there. 300 houses will not take that long once you have completed the first cleans.
300 houses only equates to 15 per day, I do that on my own in 5-6 hours.

if you have the space get a static system, on van is a total nightmare after a very short while trust me , been there done it.

650l tank should be fine, but at first you will use quite a lot more water that when you know what you are doing, so for that I would say get the 4040 so you have the water ready all the time.

Getting a baby RO will cost you more so when you expand the round

Thanks for the replies guys - i think i'm going to go for a static RO in the garage as the round i'm doing will only be local so i can always come home to fill back up.   Is it worth having the DI system in the van or will that be better off in the garage as well?

I would start as you mean to go on, make pure pump pure to van, no need for di in van as extra weight and no real need for it,
good pump from static to van that I use is  Wickes take 10 mins max to fill 650L in van and about £30

i personally have the di at home, cant see the point of cluttering up the van with it.

Have the DI vessel in the van without question.
place it after the outlet of the tank in the van.
you could contaminate the water in the transfer from the static tank to the tank in the van etc. and if you have the di vessel in the van it will filter this out. where as if the DI is on the static and you contaminate the water in transfer it will stay contaminated.

been doing it over a year this way no problem, having it on van and resin is contaminated and risinf with up the tds , so like wise personally choice, I would and do opt for nothing in van as there is no need, and the contimination going from static to van in 650L quantity would not raise tds above 000 unless a mojor problem which does not happen if care is had at base. in van you ask for more problems IMO.

I have a DI on the static unit AND one on the van.  The one in the van is useful if I'm working a long way out, run out of water, and don't want to return the next day (assuming there is a tap I can use temporarily).  It's very unusual for this to happen but a major help if it does.

Thanks again guys for your replies - you've all been really helpful.   Gonna go for a static RO and Di system with minimal amount in the van.

Are they fairly straightforward to fit in the garage or will i need to get it professionally fitted?

agree on one in the van as a back up for filling, but after tank IMO is madness. have pure water in the tank from te start.

A quick fill from a spare di frm tap for half a house than I agree max a house or resin would cost more in my area I have very high tds, I would rather trad with the last drops of pure personnally. Will all do what is easy for us, I respect that, I just say what works for my vans in high tds area.
