Has anyone experimented with what time of day leaflets are delivered?

I have often thought that they are landing on the mat with the day's post and therefore being binned with the other junk mail when the householder returns from work. Then last week on a course at the Big Clean a guy there from a sales background said that at his last company (water softeners) they had seen response rate jump from about 2% to about 17% just by delivering leaflets between 6 and 8.

This sounds like a big leap but does make sense. Anyone?

Alan - I have considered this but was thinking that there may still be enough people out there who would not appreciate it on a Sunday and you could lose potential customers before even having a chance.

Between 6-8 is when I tend to deliver leaflets and I'm getting an excellent return. A few prospects actually come out asking for me to give them a quote and a few have been fruitful. This wouldn't happen as often throughout the day as most people are obviously at work or perhaps in bed after late shifts etc....

I wouldn't be happy delivering on a Sunday, but I would consider handing out hymn books, bibles with a "Days Deepclean" leaflet at church

Col - glad to hear its working for you as is not the ideal time to be grafting - what sort of percentage do you think you are getting compared to delivering at other times?  The jump from 2% to 17% (see original post) seemed huge but could it be right do you reckon?

I only delivered 200+-10 on one estate.... And have/had 5 definate jobs and 3 prospects. I'll be picking on a couple of new estates this week. There's another estate I posted (About 100) and I gained 1 job....

£20 per 1,000 leaflets is what you can expect to pay to have them delivered in the local free paper. You'll be hard pushed to put 1,000 leaflets into homes in one day. Try putting 500 out one day on your own then see how you feel about dropping another 500 the next day. It's a soul destroying job when after all that effort you don't get a reply.

I've been dropping flyers myself last week, believe me its not an exciting task ( even with MP3 ) I only take out 200 per day, If I do more I just find myself making excuses not to deliver any the next day.

Your right about it being soul destroying. The trick is to not do too many a day. Maybe 200 a day will take you 1 1/2 hours which isnt too bad is it? Any more then I get sick of my life haha

I get mine printed at www.printcarrier.com full colour A5 doouble sided 30,000 for £305 inc VAT & delivery.

If more people get good results from posting them in the early evening I might have to have a bash myself!

I'm going for a 300g postcard flyer this time.

I believe there less likely to throw it in the bin and also they are easier to post.

The 80g A5 flyers I had last time look great as you take them out your bag, but by the time they hit the floor the other side of the door (especially with some of the bloody beartrap style letterboxes of today ) they look a little crumpled to say the least.

Its safer too, no need to put your fingers through inviting some hound to chew em off.

Yes John agree 100%, if I could find someone (reliable) to deliver them for me for £20 per 1000 I'd jump at the chance, morer like £40 per 1000 here.

To be honest I have tried numerous different kinds of leaflets over the years and have now come to the conclusion it is not the quality of the leaflet that matters so much as to the quantity.

I started off with a computer printed single colour, single sided A5. Now I have a full colour, two sided glossy A5 and there really isnt that much difference in response rates between the two if the truth be known.

In my opinion it is definitely quantity not quality
