Very often suites dont look brilliant result wise until 100% dry.  Over the years iv thought the same.  My sister asked me to clean her suite years n years ago,  when i finished it looked much better but not brilliant.  I went back the following day and it looked like new.

IMO two points to be considered. Firstly suites can hold a lot of moisture (depending on whats underneath the cover) like carpets they tend to lighten as they dry - this can take a while. So it could well be some time after you've gone until it looks its best. The other point is surely, like carpets, furniture can wear so if its oldish it may well not look like new whatever you do to it.

For really grubby bits I've found that Hydramaster's product is pretty good - smells a bit but good at getting gunge off.

Sounds as if you are talking about cotton type material.  If I do one of these and they are really bad, I would firstly explain to the customer that it will certainly look better when cleaned, but because of it's pre clean condition and taking wear & tear into account, do not expect a new suite.  You have covered yourself if it's not as good as you had wished and if it is really good, you have scored bonus points in the eyes of the customer.

As for cleaning a dirty cotton suite I would pre-spray with something like "Grease Away" from Craftex.  Let it dwell for 20 minutes then lightly agitate and rinse extract.  I would also agree that the best time to judge the results are when the suite has fully dried.
