As the title says... Looking for advice. I want a low roof preferably or semi high, medium wheel base.

Any advice on experiences of Peugeot Boxer's? Not buying new due to clocking too many miles, and also being a tight ass...!

Any suggestions??

From my own experience Andi, I would suggest a Ford Transit and keep away as far as you possibly can from Renault Trafic's.

If you plum for a boxer be wary of the gearbox. These vans and the fiat ducato are notorious for having gearbox problems. If you hear even a slight "Rasping" sound when changing gear then walk away.

To fit a new gear box can cost up to 1k.

I'm selling my Combo to buy a Vivaro as It's getting tight with the oven cleaning stuff and the C/C stuff. I've always had Vauxhall and I personally can't fault them....

Mines a 53 plate ex post van with under 60k. price??? Not sure, I was going to put it on ebay and see what happens......

Looks like a load of conflicting opinions about.
One says hes after a Vaux Vivaro cause always had good service from Vaux, another says steer clear of Renault Traffics - same vehicle, along with Nissan Primastar.

Another says be wary of Boxer gearbox problems (first time Ive heard that one).  I have a Citroen Relay (same as Boxer), 52 plate, 110k and its doing very well. No major problems at all.

So you pays your money and takes your choice.

Always ran transits for many years.........then changed to Fiat Ducatos, ran three, best thing I ever did......everything a Transit had but much cheaper.

Transits are rust buckets and no amount of maintenance will fend off the dreaded rot. Ford have designed the body’s to last around 4 years knowing that most business get shut of vehicles around this time scale.

Rear O/S and N/S, wheel arch sill areas are the first signs on a transit of about 3-4 years. After 4 years the sills will start to give out with random rust patches. 5 years the sides start to get affected and slowly turn orange and patchy.

10 years and its ashes to ashes when it comes to the dreaded transit!!

A friend of mine bought a X reg Transit (the first of the new shape change over).  He kept it up the beginning of this year.  NO rust or rot on it anywhere and it had a truckmount fitted in it from new.  It was a sound van even when he got rid of it.  The only problem he ever had with it was the gear selector and that was due to one of his techs been heavy handed.  I know many other CCs that have the same Transits and have had very few problems & very little if not NO rust.  For me its Transit all the time.

I have a Renault Trafic crewcab which I used for the portable and is now the family battle bus as I have 4 little un's... Great van, really comfy, car like and economical.

But I know run a truckmount in a 98 Transit which is sooooo friggin slow  and noisy.. I agree with rust, but it has been reliable in the last 9 months clocking up 46k.. But I need something that will go faster than 65 on the motorway down hill, and something that doesnt leave me with a headache as I spend a min of 4 hours a day driving.. Quite like the new Ducato's/Boxer but as originally posted, to much of a tight ass...

The Transit that you already have are noisy especially when you compare them to the next generation.  They do as you know also lack power however the newer generation pull much better.  The X reg van that my friend had was the base model long wheel base high top fited with a truckmount & 2 60 gallon fresh water tanks, hose reels & still pulled ok.  The newer generation to the SMILEY face van that you already have dont tend to rust like the older Transits.  The Boxer vans we did look at but to be honest didnt like the handling when loaded & did not seem as well built as the Transit.

Merc Sprinters....you see so many of them driving around that are only 4 or 5 years old with rust patches all over the sides & back of them.  I know many people not just CCs that have the Ford Transit range between 2000 - 2006 and have had no problems with clutches or water pumps or the power steering pumps.  In fact only one person that i know that has a Transit has had to replace the clutch.

I waited Colin and got a transporter but it turned out to have big problems and the dealers I bought from were no help at all.
 
Luckily when I called my local VW garage they told me that it was still under warranty and did £2k work on it

I've had em all Transit then Bedford Midi (that was a massive mistake), Sherpa, Transit then a VW transporter. That was brill, allways started, long service intervals and rot proof. Ok I went and bought it retail but it gave me so much peace of mind, in the end she got to 230k and needed a clutch, shockers etc, so I took her up to the scrappy as a  TM came up with a tranny wrapped around it.

I've gone for that but I would have a transporter anyday, best by far.

As Joe say's you pays your money and takes your chance,
The only advice i can give is I have had 3 transits in the past only problem i ever had was a bottom ball joint collapsed then i moved to renault had my Renult master 2.8 dti 3.5 ton lwb medium roof 9 years from new only problem 2 injector tips n/s front wheel bearing .
GOOD MAINTANANCE IS THE MOST INPORTANT THING TO KEEP THEM RUNNING SWEET.
