With so much time and effort spent these days on aggitation, it got me thinking.
If presprays were doing their job surely all of this aggitation would be not necessary. I seem to remember reading / hearing / that prespraying carpets broke the surface tension and released the soil from the carpet fibres  This was followed by rinse extraction with a balancing chemical to neutralise the prespray.  That's what I did for years until One Step appeared and everything changed. Are the results better ? I don't think so. Is our life easier ? Nope, if anything it takes longer than before to complete the same area.  So...............I am about to have a good look what's available on the market and maybe turn back the clock in doing so.
I appreciate some of the newer products may do a better job in some circumstances but clarification is needed.

Try Powerburst i have moved back over to detergents form the likes of Pureclean, Onestep etc
Better results, less work or thats my opinion anyway.

Same as you Mark, not looked back since PB. I use PC quite a lot though on anything suspect.

tbh honest i've started to use pb on trashed wool carpets. On ocassion I've even used Champion from craftex.

A strong acid rinse is then needed and theres nowt better for the job than white vinegar.  It's cheap and works just as well if not better than f and f rinse for example.

And I've just used Double Clean for extraction on a 3 piece lightly soiled and it came up a treat. Think it was MH that said he used it for years on them.
Woman was well pleased, she must have been she gave me a fiver tip.
Now use PB myself, not tried it with Citra Boost yet but when the need arises!!!!!!!!!!!!

i used double clean for year becuase I did'nt know any better I would'nt reccomend it now,

 but!!! in all the years i used it I never had any problems

now usually i use M/S but on trashed carpet i use bridgepoint white lightning ( an enzyme pre-spray) which i buy from alltec.

I rinse off with craftex low Ph powder

Wouldnt recommend Powerburst pre-spray and Double clean rinse on a suite, you will get some browning problems in the near future for definate. I would recommend PSG on the bad ones if i was you John

Prochem is the way to go if you dont want to use aggitation.  Micro Splitters & other chems that are similar all need heavy aggitation.  This in turn makes the job more work & takes longer & more often than not they dont clean as well as detergents.  A friend of mine only uses Micro Splitters & M Power.  I have never yet been gobsmacked at the results from the chems he uses.  I like the results that come from Pure Clean & Power Burst.  I have not used Double Clean for years.  When used as a extraction detergent i found it left carpets with a slight residue.

Mark whats 'Browning' and how will it happen for 'definite'

just so you don't think I'm thick this is a rhetorical question because I actually know what browning is and what causes it, but can't see how it is relevent to the rest of your answer.

Too high ph on natural fibres, cotton for eg, thats what we were told on a training course anyway.

What would a pre spray consist of it was classed as more effective?

I guess an enzyme and a solvent would be 2 but what about safe cleaning also what about the easy of rinsing? eco friendly?

there's a lot of scaremainering with high ph pre sprays, we've used power burst for years, in fact on nearly every job ( except for the obvious no no's ), rinse with fibre & fabric, jobs a good un !

even wool carpets and delicate suites, the fact is we've never had a problem, or at least not one specific to those products, to me thats worth more than following some "safe" code and doing a rubbish job.

We very rarely agitate either, mostly prespray, tea & biscuits, prespray, extract (t/m), easy life 

Some years ago, i knocked over some prespray on a very trashed carpet which we were struggling to clean, and produced an almost new patch on the carpet, it made me realize the prespray is the key factor in carpet cleaning, now we put down twice as much, leave a longer dwell time, and then extract with high temp and about 500 psi, pack up and go home.

I always think now that twice as much prespray is better than having to extract twice as much, less water down means drier carpets.

i think that the pre-spray i s the most important part of the cleaning.if u choose a good prespray and scrub the carpet really well the extraction is a peace of cake
