Hi Guys,

I have removed some of the more ridiculous topics which were cluttering the site.

We are a professional carpet cleaning forum which allows a little 'off topic' BUT there is a danger of too much off topic , that people will lose interest and the site dies.

Please think when posting a new topic .

Cheers,

Doug

Hi Doug

I couldn't agree more, I think it was case of someone being out on the lash and not being able to sleep as some of the posts did not make any sense at all. ::)

Probably got a hang over now ;D

good decision

some will say, boring.....but i've seen other sites hi jacked , not necessarily intentionally, but it happens and it's great to find a site which offers hope to the industry, by driving professionalism and ethics to the forefront

by working together and not fearing competition you will improve the industry for everyone

Hi Guys,

I reside almost entirely on the window cleaning side of the forum, the same thing occurs over there with regards off topic posting.
Some of us over there would like an 'off topic' or 'any other business' section where we can wander and rant to our hearts contend (obscene language and content notwithstandingof course)
This way the moderators can have somewhere to shift non relevent postings without causing the poster to much offence ;)
And also somewhere you can wander over to and have a little fun/discuss politics/talk about Dr Who! Whatever.
It would also provide common ground for all sectors of the forum to exchange views (or arguments :-\)

Just a thought?................

I'm almost exclusively on window cleaning section too - I never ever go off topic.

By the way - if you were quoting to clean the carpet in Dr. Who's TARDIS what formula would you use to price up the floor area? E=MC squared? And what if K-9 had done a whoopsie - would you charge extra?
It's a game of three halves!

If K9 did a whoopsie the Doctor would go back in time to just before and send him outside.  ;D

ps I never post off topic either.  ;)

actually, perhaps 'off topic' posting not quite accurate, within a topic I always stay with the thread, but threads almost always mutate as they go along.
On this half of the forum there is a huge topic about politics, masses of replies, not really about carpet cleaning though.
And that is what I mean about 'off topic' The subject matter is outside of any sort of cleaning context, and has been inundated with replies.
The various cleaning sectors all have their areas inside the forum, but few of us cross over to see what the others are saying, we stick to our own sectors.

I have no idea of what is involved in setting up other areas on this or any other forum, if it is a simple matter then why not?
It'll either be used or not used, much in the way that the vast majority of us stick to our own sections on the forum.

Back to the more important topic of Dr Who, He would have to find K9 first, he's been retired, or perhaps he could go back in time and fetch him when his alter ego wasn't looking.....what happens if Dr Who goes back and meets himself.....no, I'm not going there, but you see how easy it is to drift? I made passing mention of Dr Who and 2 others also made comments.

This is the kind of thing I am talking about, so easy for a thread to veer off on a tangent sometimes.
Dennis and Malc both proclaimed not to go off topic, but both made humourous comments about the good Dr.
Not off topic with regards to my own mention of him, but it was if taken into relation of the original thread started by Doug, and if the postings continued it would have been exactly the kind of thing that would be in danger of being removed by Doug!

Doug

I can only presume thay you deleted a couple of posts that were put on last night!!
I read them and they were completely ridiculous.

I put sarcastic replies to both of them to indicate that they were both utter rubbish!!
I then got up at 3am to delete the both of them, a much wiser move i thought, as i feel that i may have been lowering myself to his sort of standards!

I for one shall think twice before i reply, or even post a new topic, as you are completely correct in what you are saying. This is a Carrpet and Window Cleaning site, not a place to dump trivial none inportant text rubbish!!

Thank god for that Malc, as I could have sworn I had seen the occasional humourous tangent from you :-*

Wonder exactly what those posts were that got removed. just piques ones curiousity when one can't see what it was that caused the fuss ;)

Hi Guys,

We allow several off topics and it is only natural that at weekends they become more popular as people relax.

However there is a limit , otherwise carpet cleaning topics are submerged which is what happened yesterday.

I certainly do not want to delete anyones opinon provided they are honest and not libelous.

Cheers,

Doug

IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT DOUBLE STANDARDS ARE BEING USED. PERHAPS WE ALL NEED TO BE CARPET CLEANING GODS BEFORE WE ARE ABLE TO MAKE ANY REPRESENTATION WHICH MIGHT BE THOUGHT OF RIDICULOUS BY THE ODD GOD OR TWO. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT SOME OF THE PRESENT TRIVIA ON SHOW. I DONT THINK SOMEHOW THAT A COUPLE OF TOPICS THAT MAY BE OFF THE WALL POSTED IN THE EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING . WOULD FOUL UP THE BULLETIN BOARD, PERHAPS THOSE THAT COMPLAIN SHOULD LIGHTEN UP.AND STOP. ??? ??? ??? 8)

Sherlock

You say that there are double standards.... Where?
You are obviously feeling offended by the response that was given to your recent posts!

Why?

It was utter garbage!!!!!   And believe me, you would have been subjected to a far more sever a slating from the rest of the CC's on this forum had one of the moderators not taken your post's off the board!!

I do not mean to offend you mate, but you are responcible for your own actions!!

Don't start crying when you get a slap on the wrist, take it like a man and move on!!

There are off topics and off topics..

The recent ongoing one on the election...OK it did get too political in some parts but politics effects us all both privately and in business and is therefore, in my humble opinion, a topic that deserves an airing...within reason.

Silly/offensive ones I agree have no place here

i also read the topics in question, and am very glad to see them remouved, i dont think there should be an off topic section, there is plenty of "off topic" type sites on the net,and maybbe he should have been on one of those!

all power to the moderators for keeping the forum professional

You are absolutely correct in that there are plenty of places and mans outside of this forum to post and say what the heck you like....but thats the point, it's outside of this forum.
The one over on another forum is really quite good, I've been on there for as long as I have over here and only just realised it was there!! :-[ :-[

Which brings up a point I've made before, if you are only interested in work related topics then you simply don't bother going to the non related part of the forum, but at least it is there for others who might be.
The regular posters get to know each other, so there is more interest in hearing their opinions, rather than those of someone on some other open forum.
To get to the point where you feel comfortable takes a while on a new forum, and you often lose track of the blasted things if you frequent to many of them :-\
I've often thought I would like to make a comment and held it back because I would have been drifting to far off topic.
I don't want to have to swap back and forth between this forum and that.....er....ok, I do that already within the cleaning forums, but you know what I mean.

The point is that if it is there and you have no interest in using that section then you don't, life goes on just the same within your particular section, but at least it is there for those that would like to use it.
