I am thinking of adding oven cleaning to my services, i do the odd letting oven clean, would i need to go on a course?
some seem to cost a lot of money. any help i would be greatful

A mistake can be very costly, you need training if you are gonna do it to the standard of the Oven cleaners out there.

A lot are over priced to be honest, however there are some that offer the whole package, equipment the lot. I bought my kit from a very successful oven cleaner who mentored me through the process..

Taking the oven to bits and putting it back together is where the fun starts, and my biggest tip is, take a picture of the numptys if they are numbered or make sure you put them back in the right place.... This is very embarrassing when you get it wrong

It's a disgusting job but seriously satisfying when your're left with a gleaming oven and an overwhelmed customer!

Obviously this guy on ebay has spent £2k + VAT on a course and realised he's been had

I'm seriously considering doing a course though, see how it's done then offer courses myself at half the price including accommodation 

I've not had one complaint in the 12 months since I started oven cleaning..... Quite the opposite actually!

Cleaning is just common sense but its splitting doors etc that takes a bit of knowledge

Yes, of course I did, didn't pay £2k though.... I'm maybe daft, but I'm not stupid.

Splitting doors isn't rocket science, it's just like Meccano and I make sure I keep all the spare screws I find, once I've put it back together !!!

I wouldnt bother with the course Colin, if youre out there doing it then you are more than equipped. I did the course and you still dont get to see all the different types of door to split. Its just youre luck what type you get as you are doing them on live jobs. Also the best bit is when they tell you, do our course and you'll be earning £80k per year  I reckon you need a good mix Carpets, ovens, windows, facsia and gutters etc to get your money up not just ovens. If you need any specifics on the course let me know and i will give ya the details.

I'm doing a campaign to reduce the numbers of scews used in cookers

I usually have a few over at the end of the week

I've been thinking about doing ovens myself for a while,.. loads of my custies are asking, and my wife is nagging me to clean hers too!! I can't find any courses in the South of Ireland though.

What is the basic process, and what chems are involved? I'm thinking a trial run on my oven, a few family members etc before I commit to the expense of travelling to the UK for training.

Imm pleased this thread has taken some interest. I want to do oven cleaning. Only couple of things that bother me...

1. Grill
2. Old electric rings

3. Self cleaning ovens

Can anyone point me in the right direction here!

Firstly the top part of the grill, How do you clean an oven where the grill is? Do you take the grill out? Or not, Dont remember our oven claner doing that!

Self cleaning ovens - What chemicals can you use on them? Can you use a scraper and wire wool or not on them? Will you damage he surface if you used the chemical and wire wool on them


Also are more and more using steam cleaners now! And how long does it take to clean with a steam cleaner. If its the way to go I would purchase a steam cleaner.. like dimplex or some commercial cleaner.

Some grill elements drop out of the way otherwise its just a case of getting at the roof of the grill between the element.
Self cleaning ovens are just a gimmick imho
Steam cleaners dont work for me but some seem to do ok with them
