Eberspacher water heaters
« on: May 25, 2009, 11:00:54 pm »
Hi All,

Does anyone use a diesel Eberspacher in their van? How easy are they to fit? Any ideas on where to get spare parts? I have bought a d5w but it needs a control panel and ecu.

Still looking at ways to go hot without spending a fortune.

Cheers, Jason

There are 2 different models - a water heater and an air heater.
I once asked a Eberspacher technician who sells stuff on Ebay if these water heaters were suitable for converting WFP to hot water. He advised  that the flow rate of 1.5litres a minute is to low for the unit to work.
The only other suggestion he offered was to couple the unit into the water tank and heat it all. Thought that would then be too expensive to run and very inefficient as my tank is not insulated.
If you are thinking of just using it to heat the inside of van in winter to keep it frost free then maybe that a different issue.
The BT boys thought they were ace, especially if they were programmed to warm the van up before they got in for work first thing in the morning. I believe that most of the used warm air heaters are from ex BT vans.

I thought most of the add on heaters used either webasto or Eberspacher? Does anyone have any pics of the insides of a hot box. It might be matt,s next project to build a hot box.

the header tank holds about 7 litres of antifreeze only as its thicker than water and stays hotter for longer
the little silver tank is a heat exchanger with 2 inlet ports and 2 outlet ports so basically the hot water goes
around the system header tank into the heat exchanger and back to the heater to get reheated as it cools down
in the exchanger by mixing with the pure water ...not mixing as touching but like an oil cooler in your car???
