I'm going to try Silicone
«

My carbon pole is wearing allready so i'm going to try to preserve it with a silicone spray. I had a can borrowed from my last employment and know it's good stuff. Obviously i'm keeping the base section silicone free otherwise it will be like trying to catch an orange pip. I've sprayed the sections and the clamps still grip ok. The design of the pole is poor where it relies on carbon gripping carbon in my opinion - nowt I can do about that.
Can anyone see a reason why I shouldn't use this?

I tried silicone, it worked well for the pole only problem we found was it gets on your hands. Have found STP "son of a gun" protectant spray good.

Silicon works pretty well I must say, pole slides very nicely, and limits the wear.
I still need to try out engine laquer, and spray the pole with that. That should be even better I think. One of the best things you can do though, to preserve the life of the pole is to keep the pole hose off the ground. Permanently. I think that's wear issue number one. Also keep your hands free from grit and dirt for the above mentioned reason.

Used the pole all morning and yes some does get back to your hands, but I wear gloves so grip wasn't reduced much. Sections slide nicely though.
Not heard of that Son of a Gun stuff.

It contains slicone and makes the pole slide like silicone lube but drys hard so doesnt come off on your hands. You can probibly get it in halfords or somewhere like that. Or on line.
