First Paid Job!
« on: May 22, 2009, 04:02:05 pm »
Here we go then :)

I'm doing the HSL of the offices linked to a gasket warehouse. Pretty dirty as the office staff/warehouse staff constantly run up and down from warehouse to offices.

Carpet tiles, reasonably long pile, grey. Look to be bonded into a criss-cross plastic mesh. Generally quite sooty and with some spots of what is probably oil.

I was planning on using trafficclean then doubleclean. Not sure about spotting as I'd imagine the oil spots are unlikely to come out. I have the prochem spotting kit which has the solvent based spotters but I don't want to wreck anything.

Any tips would be great - do any of you guys remember your early jobs and actually feelling a bit frightened? :-\

Cheers

Owen

I certainly remember my first job, early July 1990 - the cheque bounced!  :o  (but went through OK when represented)
It was an estate agent's office and took 5 hours! (Probably one and a half now if they were still in business) We moved every bloody thing, desks, the lot.

I bet Shaun has still got the money from his first job.  ;D ;)

Good luck - just try and enjoy it!  ;)

be careful using solvent spotters on tiles, make sure they are not bitumen backed, one of the first tile jobs i did i wondered why however much i spotted a bit of grease it just seemed to get worse, i had forgoten that i was melting the backing of the tile and it was wicking up! it was one of the best things i could have done as i have never done it since,

Ultrapac should shift most of it, but just in case Citrus Gel (prochem) is excellent for oil marks and because it's a gel is more stable than some solvents. Double clean is ok but i'd lean more towards an acidic rinse to get the ph down and avoid resoiling, either that or use the rinse as an after spray. Good luck.

Ricky, you were just a teenager back then! :)

Did you have to take the Canary with you on every job?
