a little practice
« on: May 20, 2009, 07:44:39 am »
heres a couple of picsof a leather suite  that Mike halliday and myself worked on yesterday evening, its Mikes suite so was good to practice using more than one colour as it did have a slight two tone mottled effect,  a little difficult to see by these pics, so a black base coat was put on first and then the brown to a pretty good effect, " well we thought so "

Are you sure it was black followed by brown, rather the other way round ?

The effect looks fine and I've a similar one coming along soon so interested in the different ways of achieving two tone finishes, apart from antique it's something I've no experience of so far.

black followed by brown,

the base was not completly covered in black , a random application to areas and worked in , dried then brown.

geoffs Pics are crap ;) and his explanation of the use of the black is not clear

when  preparing the leather more of the top colour was removed, leaving a very light tan undercoat colour. on the first cushion we had difficulty  getting the top coat to adequately cover this light under coat, (it required a lot of applications of colour) so on the second cushion we used a primary base coat of black, the light colour still showed through but not as prominent

we then applied the brown top colour
