Crafty sods. I would rather run an ad in the paper than pay those scumbags.

Offer them 10% of every booking you get through them. That would be fairer and would encourage them to be more proactive

They must be quite desperate to try and snide £200. I do work for a couple of local estate agents...end of lets usually. I pay 25% commission (naturally I adjust my fee to take the back-hander into account ;D)

Don't dismiss it out of hand as it can be a very good earner but money up front?...NAH!

it could be a good earner.. however id make sure they are pro active to sell your services to their clients AND ensure your the sole window and exterior property cleaner they are advertising.

i was thinking that myself, they could have 4 or 5 cleaners advertising so the work would be harder to come by.

Would they get you 20 presale £10 window cleans in a year?

Many already have a window cleaner or would attempt it themselves.

How many kerb side appeal gutter cleans at say £80 would they give you? If they gave you ten you'd just about break even.To make a profit you'd need twenty.

My definition of profit here is working for more than £15 ph.They think you're a numpty.

i was approached to do maintenance stuff ( fix gates / fences etc etc ) when people are trying to sell, they were talking about a upfront payment, i didnt find out how much as i laughed and said " no thanks "

when the times were good they were raking it in, the house next door to me was purchased by the family about 10 doors down, the board had only gone up that morning and they didnt even look around the house, they offered the asking price and the estate agent made over 3 K, now they are up against it, they want to fleece us  ::)

Are you sure that the approach was made by the estate agency or was it by someone saying on their behalf? Check out and make sure you are dealin directly with the EA, not some advertising Co who the EA probably haven't heard of. Whichever I seriously wouldn't part with any money up front.

So it was you was it...... ;D
We checked with our local branch of the estate agency that had so called contacted us and although we had been advised that it was all a set up agreement, the local branch knew nothing about it. They contacted their HO who confirmed no such deal had ever been agreed on. They thanked us for bringing it to their attention and we got some work from their lettings side......so I suppose it did work in a roundabout way, but we paid nothing  :)

When you turn up on Thursday, tell them that you have a number of customers who wish to move house and that for an upfront fee of £1,000, you will recommend their services to your customers.  When they raise their eyebrows, inform them that you could do it for £800 as the £200 they want from you may be deducted from the £1,000 they pay you.
Hopefully the person you meet has a sense of humour.
