Been asked to quote for a job. It's a large ivy-covered detached house with off-street parking...it ticks all the right boxes for me except that a lot of the windows have ivy encroaching on the glass.

What do you guys do in this situation. Do you consider trimming back the ivy as part of the job or do you insist the glass is clear before you start cleaning? Or do you just clean around the ivy on the glass?

I had one with ivy on the frames that had been trimmed already - it was a nightmare to scrape off. Dirty water will always drop down off any dusty leaves too.

I done one yesterday,complete nightmare but I charged well for it,it took time clearing ivy and scraping from class but would never want to do one again,this one was bad!

Ask the custy what they want explaining the price implications.

E.g. "As it is visible from the window would you like me to trim your bush, or shall I leave it overgrown?"

when i bought a round one customer had all his window edges over run so i missed it,had a word with the chap i bought off and he said just do the glass you can see and hes happy,which i did and he was happy and paid

customers i do now with ivy i just break it off as it gets near the glass

I know that if I get the ivy off the glass on my first clean then it'll be part of the job in the future. As I say it's a fairly big house covered front and back in the stuff. Assuming I take the job on that basis what premium do you reckon I should charge for the gardening aspect?

I had a customer the other day with a really overgrown bush at the font and her back passage was full of moss.

ask them if they want it removed from around the window, advise them you will need to perform a sort of construction clean up to get the ivy off the glass and charge well for it, or tell them what you can clean without doing anything to the ivy.

make them aware of the options (and prices) let them make the decisions and go with that.

You would have been straight with them before hand so any problems are down to them - they choose the final outcome after all

Hi Guys, She has a gardener who will sort out the ivy, but the price I quoted for the clean was "a bit more than I was looking to spend".  : So problem solved .

I just clean them the best i can.

If the customer wants them cleaned better they need to remove the ivy
