Mattress Cleaning - Urgent Advice Please
« on: May 06, 2009, 03:05:10 pm »
We've been asked to clean a heavily soiled single matress, never done this before - I need advice on the best way to clean it, what you use and how much to charge (around 30mins travelling each way)!

Got to call them back asap - they want it done NOW!!

Would ultrapac renovate rinsed with F&F rinse not do the trick?

I would keep the psi down and try not to over wet... Back that up with air movers too!

ps... you can get brand new single mattresses for £50 round here, probably even cheaper if you shopped around. something to think about.

I'm sure you can buy cheap chocolate tea pots round your way too Derek.

I seem to remember a post about fibre shampoo/oxbrite foam concoction. This is where the search facility may come into it's own.  :)

I always say aesthetically it will still look like someones poop the bed but at least you know it's clean.

Don't use a high ph prespray, acid rinse and bactericide. Use LM handtool like CFR if you have one and put airmover on it.

My advice is don't put a hot chocolate teapot on a mattress.

And don't ask whether it's got tea of hot chocolate in it Derek. ::)

Wear gloves, wash yourself and your clothes afterwards and sanitise any tools used before you put them back in your van.

30 mins drive away and all you're going for is a single mattress clean?  Did you try to sell them something else so you can actually make some profit out of the job?  In cases like this I'd give them a rather inflated price for the mattress on its own and tell them I'll do it for half that if they have some other work done at the same time.

The problem with mattresses is the sheer density of the surface you're cleaning.  You need some absolutely monstrous lift to try to draw air through it so you can extract it effectively.

The last bogging mattress I cleaned, I connected two ninjas up in series to give me a four vac system.  Could've done with steel hoses as the normal ones start to collapse with all that vac lift ::)

I managed a reasonable result using a good old soak with M-Power for the genral yuk, and a post-treatment with browning prescription for all the pee and "gravy" stains ;)

I know what my own mattresses have gone through in the past, that's why cleaning other peoples' isn't my idea of fun :D ;D

Its for a LA did the first job last week £400, this is the 2nd one - did explain that we would clean it and when they saw it they might think 'oh there's still stains on there and we've paid to clean it - I said you can get new ones for around £50 and we're charging £35'. She spoke to the landlord and came back to me saying they want it done.
So we'll go and see what we can do  ;D
