Fortunately I have room in the house to store my gear overnight.
Failing that I would want to back up to a wall, lamp post, other vehicle tostop them getting in the back doors.
Also there are very secure locking systems which are an investment.

Jon thats a bitch.I have been using that same setup for over 2 years so know why you would have bought it.Anyway sympathy aint gonna get your kit back is it so i propose you offer a reward for its return. This kind of thing really sucks so i will be the first to offer you £50 towards your total.I am sure if you asked some of the guys on here would be glad to help. You would be suprised how greed loosens tongues.Best of luck Alan(swindon)

Hi Jon,
I will also keep a look out for any machinery for sale, i'm based in Buntingford, Herts. I had my van broken in to a couple of years ago, they tried to steal my van and truckmount. Theres alot of vans getting broken in to at the moment, most of my mates are tradesmen and have had something stolen. with the current finacial climate i think things are going to get worse. A couple of hundred £s on some extra locks and security could be money well spent.

I unload most of mine every night into garage, just leave chemicals, brushes and buckets and a few bits and bats in.
Been broken into once early hours of a Monday morning and as luck would have it I cleared it out on the Sunday
to do a tip run and couldn't be arsed loading it back up, so they only got the radio and I got a smashed quarter light
and £60 bill.
Bit lucky there.

i always reverse my van up to the garage overnight since my neighbor had his spare wheel taken, i would hope that it also makes it more awkward for someone to get into the van,

Hi Jon,

Sorry to hear of the break in.  I had my car stolen a few weeks ago,  they had taken my keys from the window sill in my hallway via the letter box.  Luckily 1 of my dogs woke me up whinning so i noticed it missing within 15 mins of it happening so i called the police & they stopped the offender within a hour of me reporting it.  The rear doors of any van is the easiest way for offenders to gain access.  I hope you were insured for your equipment inside of the van.  As already stated,  get a good alarm.  Ensure when such alarm is fitted that motion detectors are fitted in the rear of your van aswell as the front cab area.

Richie.

Hi Jon,

Sorry to hear of your loss. Keep a regular eye on e-bay and go see your local chemical suppliers, and start asking if there is anyone unknown to them who has started cleaning or brought in any equipment like yours. Some people aren't very bright and WILL probably try to resell near you!

3 years ago my van was stolen from outside a house I was cleaning.
I could not see it from the house as it was at the end of a long garden parked on the road.
How they started it is still a mystery but they did.
Bit of a shock to go out to your van and it is not there.
I had only vacced the carpets so all I had taken in was a lead and a vac.
The van was found three days later quite close to a large pikey camp ( funny that ).
It had been picked clean right down to the mats in the footwells.
Van had been battered a bit but was repairable so eventually got it back and the insurance just about covered the cost of replacing all my kit but the aggravation and time lost sorting it out was a nightmare.
The police told me that if it had not been sign written I would not have seen it again.

"The police told me that if it had not been sign written I would not have seen it again"

One reason I like having my van plastered in sign writing.
It would take them hours to remove, plus double that time to get rid of the residue

You guys should live in South Africa. Van has an alarm system + satallite tracking, Trailer has the same and yet I have replaced the GPS systems 4 times in 2 years. Staff leave the windows open for a second and it's gone.

2 weeks ago, a staff member left a wand standing against the house wall, within literally a minute, it was nicked. Got a frantic phone call from the staff member (they get charged for losses and we know how much a TM floor wand costs). I told hime to find it or pay for it.

Within 15 minutes they located it at a local scrap dealer (2 minutes around the corner), a fight ensued, police called. Got the wand back but my staff member suffered injuries to his hand whilst extracting it from the perps face.
