What would you charge for this shop front?
« on: April 29, 2009, 06:46:52 pm »
Asked the shopkeeper if he'd like a quote for the windows... he said yes.

For a Weekly clean for main windows and door (not frosted panes above)... what would you charge?

I'll see what you'd charge before I go on...  ;)

£4 weekly
£4 inside no less frequent than quarterly
£4 sign no less frequent than quarterly

£224 per year, nice job if it fits in  ;)

if it is dirty it is fair game

Yes outside only,

I said £5 with top frosted panes cleaned at no extra cost every now and then.

The shop keeper was was really grumpy, and said no it's twice what he's paying.  Apparently the window cleaner has been doing them for 15 years or more!  :o  (Obviously doesn't put his prices up!)

Anyway, I said I'm not doing this for beer money..  Stupid thing to say, but I was annoyed!  :D ;D

Bout time that window cleaner retired I think!  ;) ;) ;)  Only kidding, I'm just hoping to pick up his work when he does...

the thing is, when he does retire and people come in for the work ( though i bet it will be passed on anyway ) these shop keepers are used to shuch low prices, they will not accept real world prices

It’s not always the customers fault, some window cleaners are to blame for there stupidly low prices.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't explain...  This shop keeper was particularly arrogant!

They'll have to at some point; I feel like saying do you know that I pay £950 a month for my small 3 bed semi?  And that's just to rent it until the owners say move out we want to sell it!

I think your price is spot on mate. I was thinking £5 without the tops, £6 with, but yeah, throw them in for free every now and then. Shame you didn't get it but hey, always stuff out there at the proper price  ;D Thing is, these take 5 minutes to do so if you had a row of 12 that equals £60ph !! That being the case, you could charge £3, nobody would undercut you and you'd still earn £36ph. Thing is these days you'd be pretty lucky to pick up 12 shops in a row all at once !!

I have a fair bit of shop work, and it's okay but I think residential or big commercial work or blocks of flats are my favourite. IE anything but shops.  ;D

The trouble can be that shopworkers make hardly any money per hour and think you should do the same.
I had one moan to me that 'we haven't had a pay rise this year' that's your look-out love I thought. Not my fault!

Out of my shops the best paying are the four hairdressers I do, ask your wife why they can afford it! They charge a fortune!

oh dear, that must be me then ::) :P
I do a newsagents about that size weekly for 2 quid, takes me about 90 seconds (infact I'm in the shop longer)
problem was the cleaner before me only charged a quid  ;D
I'm not too bothered and normally take a sarny and a can of pop in payment rather than the cash, its on my main route across town and has lead to other work in the area anyhow  ;)

I got shops like that. £15 fortnight. They thought it was a bit steep to start with but now they like the results and gave me 2 more or there shops. Yoy have to charge a realistic price. Whats the point in being a busy fool.
