Help!!!!
« on: April 27, 2009, 06:56:15 pm »
Hi guys,

I have a problem,

I bought a caravan last year for 12700 which was financed by a loan arranged by my caravan park from RBS.

This year we upgraded our van, sold old one bk to the park and they arranged all the finance for new van and told us theyd got a settlement figure from RBS and were goin to pay off the loan and start afresh with a new finance company on a better deal.

All sounded good so we cancelled direct debit with RBS as the van was no longer ours and loan had been paid up. Or so we thought.

A month later a letter from RBS arrived through the post saying we'd missed a payment.

I rang them to explain and they said theyd sort it out with the park. All fine then?
NO.

I week later another letter arrived saying that theyd served a default notice on us and wanted their caravan back. Which we hadnt got.

I rang them bk and apparently it is now all sorted. The loan is paid and we are happy in our new van.

Except....

Today I had a meeting to renew our mortgage and apparently this default has wrecked our credit rating and nobody will touch us. Our mortgage will shoot up by over 150 a month very soon.

Its a long winded post but im very frustrated and would welcome any advice.

It was the caravan sites mistake as the person who deals with accounts was off with personal problems.

Ive now got a personal problem myself thanks to them.

Any help or advice would be great.

Speak to RBS if it was all in error and a misunderstanding, and ask them to speak to the credit check company they put your default with, probably equifax or experian. They will then remove it for them. But usually, you wouldn't get a bad credit rating if you have only missed one payment?

Thanks niceandclean,

It worked out as 2 payments in total,

As its only a short term loan the total arrears were quite substantial.

Thanks again,

No problem. I used to sell finance for vehicles and customers used to cancel the original policy before the new policy had all started, so i had a few customers that had the same thing after 2-3 payments. As i say just call RBS, they are a reputable company, so i really cant see you having any problems. :)
