LPG Vans
« on: April 12, 2005, 04:28:05 pm »
Is anyone running an LPG van ?

With diesel going through the roof and this goverment raking it in on the tax it thieves from us twice at the pumps (bit political ;D) I have been making enquiries on obtaining an LPG van or at least a convertion.

I wondered if anyone is running one and if you are how are you getting on with it.

Trevor,

I had a LPG pick-up truck. Fuel cost once all things factored in were around the 50% cheaper than un-leaded. I trust you’re aware of the loss in pure grunt, don’t expect to be overtaking anything uphill!

I’m pretty sure you cant convert a diesel LPG needs a spark!

No u cannot convert a diesel to lpg as far as i know but u can have it set up to run recycled vegtable oil and such there are a few companies doing this now and all you have to do is go down the local chippy and tell them youll dispose of there fat for free

might smell like a chippy on a saturday night but at 5p a litre to run who cares

Used to drive an LPG transit great van
Used to start up on petrol and automatically switch over to LPG.
If i was running low on gas we could just press a button for petrol.
Never noticed any loss of power using LPG in fact the van went so well you would have thought you were using petrol all the time.

Thanks Glynn, I stand corrected. The web page has certainly wetted my appetite; 30% savings with no detriment to performance. Would be interesting to hear from anyone who gets a conversion quotation from this company to see just how many miles one would need to drive in order to break even.

Paul, my truck was the same, flick a switch to change from petrol to LPG and back again. I wasn’t as fortunate as you with regard to performance, when on LPG I lost huge amounts of acceleration and the high-end torque was non-existent. However having said that I totally resented having to switch from gas to petrol whenever I couldn’t find a LPG fill-up point!!

good thing i think with gas is you can get a goverment grant for work vans and cars if its younger then 5 years and it can give tax relief dont quote me on that tho
