Got my first
« on: April 14, 2009, 08:40:40 pm »
Got my first consevatory roof to do friday.
Will it come up clean just using my wfp with pure water or do i need to get some tfr.
it's not a glass roof its a poly roof. Bit nervous as never done one before. I'm guessing it will take me ages to clean. That doesn't bother me aslong as it comes up clean.

If it is really dirty I would use a spare brush so you don't contaminate the glass when you clean them.

Sure itll come up fine with just water, however, TFR isnt really want you want if your trying to remove, grime, algae, moss, etc go for Ecover Truck Wash

TFR is really to refurbish PVC and remove that 'rusty' grey inlaid grime from white uPVC. Dont bother with it, just get Ecover if you really want anything.

yeah i find pure water works just fine....

if its really bad go over the whole roof and give it a scrub then go back to where you started and the water will have "worked its magic" and loosened it up ;D
You can't polish a turd

I would use their tap water if it was a poly roof. Then a quick rinse over with pure just for show.
Prespraying with tfr and leaving for a few minutes will make things easier but any water will do the job. Therefore i'd recommend tap water for the poly roof.

Not bad if you don't mind paying £27 for 5 litres.
I prefer to pay tfr prices which are way less.
Tfr = Traffic Film Remover, just like Ecover it's produced for the cleaning of vehicles, window cleaners have just found another use for it ;D

I agree with mark dew. Use ordinary tap water to get most of the muck off. Give it a pre-soaking and by the time you've finished soaking the last bit, the first bit will be ready to clean.

You can finish off with pure if you like to get a really excellent finish.

Here are four bits of advice that you don't see very often. They are things that I think are useful and important to know. Others might not agree.

* Take great care cleaning the ridge cappings (things on the ridge) and finials (pointy bits at the end of the ridge).

My technique is to rest the pole on the edge of the roof and move it from side to side and up and down and twist very gently. That way I'm not pushing on them - just letting the bristles brush gently on them.

* To get twigs and leaves out from under the ridge cover. Take the brush off your pole and wrap a microfibre round the end. Then you can just pull the stuff out without damaging the surfaces.

* If the roof spars are very green, you might want to turn your brush so it is parallel with them and scrub along them.

If they have moss growing between the spars and the roof panels, you'll need to use a scraper on a pole to get it off. You can scrub with a brush from now until the turn of the next millennium and it wont come off!!

* Take care with the cappings on the end of the roof spars just above the gutters. They can be loose and come off very easily. You might even find that they are broken if it's been cleaned before by someone who hasn't been as careful as you'd like.

Ive also found Ecover IMO does a superior job by comparison to TFR.
