I saw this today for the first time. Anyone else seen it?

The jist of it was 'why get a professional in when the Rug Doctor is just as good'. This is not something those on this board really need right now I'm sure, what with there being a recession and all. It's a tv anti-advertisment for carpet cleaners.

There's also the mater of the claim they have made, which is at the very best debateable.

I think we should all petition the Advertising Standards Agency.

Think in the slowdow people will try and do it themselves.

I had a regular c clean to do two weeks ago and it was trashed and half way through had to go and empty the machine as it was full of foam,had to do this 6 times before i finished and after she told me they had hired a cleaning machine :

The carpet was hidden under a film of dry soap from the hire machine...

Well, if the Rug Doctor is the "must have" machine for professional carpet cleaners..... Im off to Ebay to get one :

i often say to potential customers who are thinking of doing it themselves... "if i could do a good job with a rug doctor do you really think i would spend £15,000 pound on a carpet cleaning machine" it soon brings them round.

The rug doctor is way over priced, No wet wonder foam is better and you can carry that around on your push bike, or public transport

Forget £600 for a Rug Doctor.
New push bike (£150 Halfords) and No Wet Wondewr Foam (£20 QVC) and Im away!

I wouldn't worry, in fact sit back and wait for the phone to ring as another RD leaves a customers carpets needing cleaned every 3 weeks .  I once hired one and my carpets were even dirtier 3 weeks later than before I used the RD.

It didn't take me long to phone up a C/C to come and rectify the pi** poor job I'd done.

So you could say that RD are doing us a favour, I suppose!

In reply to the origional post, perhaps we should all chip in and pay for an ad to debunk RD's claims.... Now that would be a result

I was just thinking actually.... If you can't beat them, join them and hire out these machines yourself! At least RD are paying for the ad

To my disgust I've just seen my local parade of shops which has a dry cleaners have a pavement board advertising 'Now hiring Rug Doctor', hopefully it'll be as you said Colin - we'll get the calls when it all goes wrong

Anyone that would use a rug doctor for a professional clean to their carpets are not people you would normally expect to do work for.

I have been called out twice by RuG Doctor to make good carpets their machines have let go ona carpet.

The way I see it, Rug Doctors are aimed at men. Men who have never cleaned a carpets (we all know how to do it properly requires knowledge, skill and bloody hards work), and the same man,  whowife ask's when she says "I'll have to ask my husband". I have seen it so many times "I'm not paying that, I'll do it myself".

Problem is in this industry we only have the NCCA, to nationally adverise the merits of using a carpet cleaner. I might add I am not a member, although have been trained to the standards they say. Reason being I don't believe its high profile enough, customers don't know who it is, and after many years of being part of a franchise, I know a fool and his money can soon be parted.
