On three different enquiries last week the customers where asking questions on resoiling or 'will it get dirtier quicker after cleaning'. 

I explain the chemicals I use are totally residue free and environmentally safe (usually microsplitters) and that I use a fresh water rinse.  I also have a line in my advertising about no rapid resoiling.

Sometimes i feel the customers dont really listen or believe me even past customers although i can clearly see the carpets havent resoiled but require cleaning as a matter of course.

How do you explain this issue to customers, forcefully yet effectively.

Hi Mark

Cleaning using normal detergents leave behind a residue, lets call it a "soil builder",  this attracts new soil over a relatively short period and will the carpet to "dirty out" quicker. Our method doesn't use detergents so does not leave this soil builder behind, we are able to clean deeper leaving your carpets and upholstery cleaner for longer.

Hi Mark.

The best line I have found is to explain that the detergent leaves a sticky residue which then attracts dirt.

To prove this with say 1001/vanish I suggest to the customer that if they were to put some on a work surface and let the water evapourate , they would end up with a sticky residue.

Customers seem impressed with this as it's plausible and simple.

I must admit talking about 'microsplitters' is the quickest way to glaze over their eyes!

I just say our chemicals do not contain any detergents to cause this stickiness , or that our clean water rinse has removed any detergent residue, depending on which method I'm using.

If its a really dirty carpet which I'm not rinsing then i don't say anythings as the quality of the clean speaks for itself.

Be honest and keep it jargon free.

What your saying is generally what i say but i wonder has anyone successfully won the concerned customer over, with their non-resoiling advertising.

I include this line in all my advertising but even today a customer was concerned.  Although the carpet was full of 1001 :

In my experience professional detergents used correctly, do not accelerate resoiling. There are many other reasons why this happens. General poor grade detergents do accelate resoiling, but a true professional who knows what he is doing wouldnt use them, only the lower end so called CCs would.
I explain that the assumption of rapid resoiling following carpet cleaning, mainly stems from the days of shampooing, when  a high amount of sticky residue remained in the carpet. I then explain how things have changed so that this is no longer the case when done properly.

I agree with you on that dave, i've haven't had one complaint in 10 years on resoiling from good quality detergent use...they aren't foamy these days which i beleive was the case years ago and i use almost the same patter to my custards as you do...having said that i'm wating for some microsplitters to arrive so i can try them as they get rave reviews on here.

I can see myself using both due to the nature of some of my workload but the green choice is handy for the more clued up customers....If it works as well as has been discussed on this forum.

If used coorectly MICRO-SPLITTERS will do wonders for your business.  There are a select few CCs on these message boards that slag MICRO-SPLITTERS off saying they cannot cope with heavy soil situations.  This is not the case.  Before i tried MICRO-SPLITTERS i just thought there was no way that they would give me the results that i achieved with my chemical arsenal.   Then i tried ONE-STEP micro-splitters and got VERY GOOD results. Since then i have tried SOLUTIONS micro-splitters and got FANTASTIC RESULTS.

I have been using MS for 6 months now and am v.happy, but have noticed alot of dare i say residue around the bottle tops which is white and crusty, any ideas? Hope this doesnt mean im leaving a residue allbeit small in the carpet after cleaning.

I am not slagging off microsplitters as I used them too. On carpets especially I still prefer detergents. I know that on very soiled carpets twhen I have used MSs, I have had to apply a second or third prespray to accompliosh the job to my satisfaction. I know what the result will be with detergents and it just takes an extra couple of passes on the more dificult areas to achieve the desired result, without any additional prespray. I have tried hard to become a solely MS CC to the point where I accept the standard, problem is I still find my results with detergents to be superior. Im going to stick my neck out and suggest that, anyone who tries a new or different product, and gets significantly better results with it, is going to be converted to that product. The results in comparrison that I have experienced with MSs, have not led to that convertion.

I can get the same if not better results using MICRO-SPLITTERS as  i would if i was using detergent chemicals.

I started using One Step about 4-5 years ago when they were being marketed  ( NOT TERRIBLY WELL ) by Franklins of Sheffield
The concept was -----prespray with One Step agitate with a Klanz machine then spray/extract with a CFR machine.
I don't believe any system could achieve a better result, including T M's.....but it was slow and physically, heavy  going.  Re-soiling was never a problem, but then, it never has been a problem for us.
When the subject of resoiling is raised, which isn't often I simply state that;-
Poor quality products are a bit like soap, which will clean , but is unlikely to be fully extracted and will probably leave a residue, but...we don't use soap and we use ve.

Mentionng anything, that causes a negative thought, in your marketing, is asking for trouble. Don.t do it !
