CANCER don't care who it takes!
« on: March 22, 2009, 06:25:10 pm »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi guys, some of you may or may not know that I am running the 2009 Flora London Marathon on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support. I've already been sponsored by some very generous members you can see who by clicking on the link below.

My reasons for running for this wonderful charity are well documented on my just giving sponsorship page.

www.justgiving.com/deankelly

Macmillan is a British charity that don't have a huge fundraising day backed by the media and hoards of celebrity's trying to make there selfs look good like Red Nose Day or BBC's Children in Need. Its a charity that is seriously struggling to keep the funds rolling in this rescission and needs all the help they can get.

I'm asking you guys and girls if firstly you could take the time to read the link to understand why I want to put my self through this ridiculous road race and secondly to where possible sponsor me to help me reach my fund raising goal.

I understand If you give to other charities and would rather not support Macmillan for what ever reason. But If you can afford to go without a couple of fAg packet's or a couple of pints on a Friday night to really make a difference to some ones life that has been inflicted with an awful disease through no fault of there own, then please please do!

Don't let Cancer sufferers be the real victims of the rescission!

Hi Mr D

Congratulations and well done on your initiative.

From memory, Macmillan Cancer Support has merged with Cancer Bacup. As a cancer survivor myself, I called on Bacup on several occasions and their expertise, knowledge and support were first class. Their website is an enormous asset and valuable tool.  Their service is basically providing information for both cancer victims/survivors, their family and friends and then pointing them in the right direction as appropriate. Anybody can call and the person the other end of the phoneline really knows what they're talking about.

When I was organising trade events for the NCCA, I usually arranged something that would mean contributions to this charity. More recently, as my father was cared for at a local hospice, my fund raising has been and continues to be,  for them.

Good luck with your training and the punishing event too. I'm already commited to projects for this year, but would urge others who have not yet thought about their support for this year to seriously consider helping Dean (?) and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Safe and happy running :)

Mr D,

How's the training going?  It's not long now; next month I think!

How're you feeling and what's the effect of your training on your family?  I know when Wor Lass is marathon training, we ALL suffer! ;D

cheers Ken, I hope your doing well and healthy! I truly belive this time last year I'd of had no problem raising the money but now I'm really struggling. People whom I thought would be very generous are telling me things are too tight to donate to charity but they still smoke 40 a day and do a bottle of red a night. wont be long before there needing Macmillans help. sound's awful but I'm feeling a bit down about it all at the mo.

In fact the best response and most help by far I've received has been from here and fellow w/c!!

Training has been a mere Tosh. Injury after Injury. I've done 20 miles so far last Sunday so I'm doing ok despite the problems. Starting to get real nervous now though. and the worry of not making the fundraising target ain't helping matters.

thanks for the help Dave s2none your i diamond. thank you for the support!
