70% Off Leaflet

Was loading the van up at a customers house the other day when some cheeky bugger walked up the drive and handed me a  leaflet offering 70% off carpet and upholstery cleaning in your area for 2 weeks only. The small job i had booked in for today was cancelled no doubt after getting this leaflet in their door. Has anyone seen a bigger discount than that.

Had one in our door on Monday - Lounge carpet for £9.00, and my van was on drive.

with all the redundancies and short time working in swindon at the moment very surprised we haven't seen that type of flyer here yet

i have never seen one for as low as £9 but their are a lot advertise  a half price clean examples of lounge £15 , hall stairs and landing £17 3 piece suites £30, you could make a living at these prices if going to do all house but i wouldnt like to go out and do one room then move to next job, not worth driving and setting up equipment at them prices.

I can remember in 1990 the half price leaflet guys charged that!

What is it what they keep saying on my local radio station "rolling back to the 60's,70's,80's and 90's" not bloody kidding.

A woman has just rand me about a suite clean and can I beat £35? Jokingly I said "I'll drop my lad off at 9 in the morning and he'll do it with a rug doctor but he needs a drink of pop and some crisps and may stop to watch Power rangers at 9.30" she laughed but still didn't book actually I think she's in shock as I quoted her £135.

Its a no no when they start to say that price and all the sales patter in the world wont change her mind ???

Got asked Wed to quote (telephone) for lounge and hall.
Dimensions of size were a bit sketchy so to cover myself I said £70.

Oh she said I cannot afford that. We had it done last time for about £18.  :o :o
I heared her husband correct her saying it was £25  :o

Why dont you get him to come back I asked.
Lost his number was the reply.  ::)

Thats what i say when they tell me that price and on the phone they mumble some exuse why they dont have them back ;D

I wouldn't give it another thought - I wouldn't want anyone as a customer who seriously considered paying £ 9 to have a carpet cleaned.

I seem to be getting a lot of people saying can I book you for next week, not even asking about prices ??? ??? ??? I might start chaging £8 per M once I've cleaned their carpets, instead of the usual 12 pence ;D

Some people will try it on thinking that we have no work and are skint,all because the house prices are falling doesn't mean that quality is.

Had another call an hour or so after for a clean and scotchguard of a 3pc suite and they took my price, new customer also AND from yellow pages, will wonders never cease!

We had a leaflet of that nature stuck through our door, offering a massive discount but only for the next two weeks whilst they were working in our area.

I did some investigating and traced the phone number to Milton Keynes, some 50 miles from us.
The firm were also charging VAT on their prices so we checked the VAT No. online....No Trace and Not Currently in use !

Suspicions aroused I contacted HMRC who checked their records and found the VAT No. being used had previously been linked to the Tax Office itself in Milton Keynes. They were very interested in the company concerned as they also didn't appear to exist.....certainly not when it came to paying tax and VAT  :o
They would be investigating the company themselves.

What's that saying, "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is " !!

I sometimes say to price shoppers, "If there were two 42" tv's for sale, One for £499 and one for £49,which one would you be suspicious of ?"

It usually gets them thinking!

I'd be suspicious of both ;D

Works the other way around too!

Two TVs for sale, both cost £400.  One is a 40" wide screen, the other is a black & white portable.  Which one is the better value for money?  They're both "A Television" after all....
