Yeah I know it's not the right area to post this topic but I'm looking for an answer quick.

Tried to insert a dvd in my laptop and it wouldn't play - tried a couple of others, still no joy.

Restarted the laptop and now the bloody thing won't open at all - everything else works ok.

Any of you computer whizzes got any ideas ?

Not tech minded at all but a light swift jab in the general area of the disc tray section will make u feel a hell of a lot better.

WARNING it may bugger the lap top

You should be able to go to  /Computer - select the drive and right click - and then select 'eject'.

Could be 1 of 10 things
without knowing what your using vista xp sp1 sp2 sp3

obv thiings to try
1 Device manager look for drive see if it is still enabled
2 Have you downloaded anything recently maybe you have a conflict with some software

If you find that dvd player is broken usually not big job to change it.

Thought that tray was for the coffee mug

Not sure if it's the same as on a PC but there is usually a little hole on the front of the drive. Straighten a paper-clip and insert. This will trip the mechanism for opening the drawer.

Thanks for that Roger - at least I've got it open now. Still won't play anything so I guess it's a new dvd tray.

Can you access any CD/DVD from that drive? Like a music cd, or files on a cd? If not, it's probably broken.
