Just interested to know what you guys would charge for the following:

3 hallways and stairs to clean, over 3 floors.

Carpet is low profile rubber backed, pretty trashed, but will clean up OK.

Hallways total 45.5 mtr/sq

Stairs ( 1 metre wide ) 29 in total.

I know Chemdry are gonna be quoting as they were leaving as I arrived.

Its not a massive job but there are 18 apartments in the complex so if I do a good job it'll be a good advertisement for me.

I though about £2.00 per sq/mtr plus £1.00 per stair, Total - £120.00. Does that seem far out?

Cheers

Who else is quoting? CD aren't going to be cheap but sometimes the owners can choose the middle quote if they have another CD then you may sound cheap if they have another independant then it's dependant on them.

I would see how long do you think it will take x hourly rate and payment terms.

PS is Fred's carpet cleaning still going? he used to say to customers that he had 'magic chemicals'

Hi Shaun

Not sure if there is anyone else quoting, I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes Freds still going, I've never met him but I noticed he's in the Yellow Pages again. Magic chemicals !! That's it then, I'm shopping him to trading standards. One down!!  ;D

£1.50 to £2 per stair isn't unreasonable!

Paul,
I would go in at £130, plus try to push half price protection treatment.

You can be sure that CD will quote for protection and you can beat them on that.

If the carpet takes a beating, protection is a must.  Try to look at it as an ongoing account.
Protection makes it better for them ( longterm ) and easier for you to clean.

Quote a reasonable price, speak to the person making the decision to promote your
professionalism and you are in with a very good chance. If you don't get it at that price, it is probably not worth it anyway.  Be prepared to lose some!!

Paul,

My quote would nearly double yours.  Don't rip yourself off, is all I'm saying :)

Sell them the benefits rather than getting hung up on the price.  Leave them with the feeling that they need to use you rather than anybody else.

If the lowest quote is going to win it, you don't want to be doing the job, simple as that.

Don't rip yourself off with stairs either, they're hard work!  I count each step as one metre multiplied by the width of the stair and then chuck it in with the rest of the total.

I wouldnt push protector unless your sure its not polyprop as you could look a numpty if someone pointed out that protector on polyprop is very limited value  hence not a good investment for them .

I would do what shaun said and say to yourself how much you want an hour and guess ther will be 3 quoting.

And of course CD is a franchise, about 30% I think, so you should be a lot cheaper than them.

There's going to be a lot of to-ing and fro-ing on this sort of job going up and down stairs. So as Jim said you need to consider factoring in the hassle of stairs.

Personally I'd be about £160-£170 for the job as described.

No I wouldn't be pushing protector either. Where you have common area carpets I can't see the management buying into protector treatments.

I have just finished a commercial job quoted for 2 weeks ago to do the lot just found out this morning I have to go back at no pre determined time to finish a reception area and some stairs as the contractors haven't finished.

Now work that into the occassion.
