One of those days !
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:40:24 pm »
First job 2 bed coach house type thing, empty nothing to move all good, set up machine at bottom of stairs, coming down with 10ltr of water, caught on door frame, poured all over my legs  :(.
Much shouting and swearing later, and going over my jeans with upholstery tool to dry them a bit, started working, gave my vac hose a good tug to reach the far corner, hose caught on radiator and yanked it off the wall,so it fell on the floor, lucky it was plastic micro bore and didn`t break, put it back all ok phew.

Got to my next job,old lady had died and her daughter was clearing out all her stuff, would it be ok if i just gave her a hand moving a few things down to the garage, said yeah ok no prob, turns out it was most of her posesions i was movin, beds wardrobes, sideboard,tv the lot, bags of clothes everything :( not happy, but got £25 for my trouble
Booked another 2 for this week so it`s starting to look up,might even get out of my overdfaft this week  ;D

Mark,
Be careful you dont get wet knees and kneel on a carpet and the dye runs.
Bet once they are wet they take ages to dry.

I thought that jeans had always been workwear. Isn't that what they are for?

Yep thats true, but jeans never dry out, they are cotton and hold moisture and as above they are dyed.

Carpet fitter type trousers are best, hard wearing and look good with a polo shirt.

Yeah they take ages to dry out, allways soak myself when doing upholstery too  :( need to carry a change of clothes with me  ;D
Just had my heat and run in bits,i also took out the bottom connection and cleaned out all the old silicon and put some fresh stuff in there (also managed to get it all down my leg,and all over the kitchen sink ) and did the thing up really nice  and tight, hoing to leave it to dry out next to the fire this eve, then give it a good spray of wd40 or similar fish oil, then connect it back up and run it at pressure before i turn it on to heat, crossing everything that it works, don`t enjoy cleaning without it.although i didn`t really see any noticable difference not having it

How do you manage to soak yourself when cleaning upholstery?

Do you kneel down and use the upholstery as a work surface or do you construct a work bench so that you can stand up and work?

I tend to flip it over, onto the front to do the back and vise versa, loving the sound of raising it up though, maybe with a crate under each end so it`s a bit higher off the ground ?

Yes Clinton the operating table. What else would a surgeon work on?

Mark

Easier than that. Ideally put 2 armchairs back to back or side by side (can also work with sofas) and put a board (mine's about 3 x 2 ft) across the back of the 2 chairs or across the arms.

Hey presto a work surface which allows you to stand, save getting wet and more importantly save your knees. You also look more professional.
